Women On Wheels® - Northwind Riders Chapter
HELLO!! Women On Wheels® was founded in 1982 for the express purpose of uniting women motorcyclists. We are dedicated to promoting the interests of all women who ride, whether on their own machine, as a passenger on someone else's, or as future motorcyclists!
We would like to introduce you to the NORTHWIND Riders!! We are a Chapter associated with Women On Wheels® and we want to let everyone know a little more about our chapter, where we came from, and the direction that we are taking.
The NORTHWIND RIDERS was started in January 1988. Originally called the Northern Illinois Chapter, with 18 women and 5 support men, and in May of that year, we became the NORTHWIND RIDERS. Currently we have approximately 25 members with several support members.
Northwind Riders hold their meetings on the 3rd Saturday of each month, at 9:30 AM at FOUNTAINDALE PUBLIC LIBRARY, 201 Normantown Road, Romeoville, IL 60446, 815-886-2030. Rte. 53 to Normantown Road go West, 2 blocks on left or Weber Rd. to Normantown Road go East, approx. 2 miles on right at stop sign. (See location link for a map)
Our members range in age from 30 to 82 years in age, and vary in riding experience from the "brand new" to over 50 years. When we ride together, we ride in "group staggered formation" and we abide by all state laws and safety rules. We do encourage the use of a helmet, but each member makes her own decision.
We participate in various charity activities (food & clothes drives, car washes, etc.). During M.A.Y. (Motorcycle Awareness & You) we volunteer to wash windshields one of the Illinois interstate system rest areas and hand out I.D.O.T. awareness pamphlets. Other activities that we enjoy are our Ice Cream Rides, camping (both traditional and at area motels), joining other chapters and other local area clubs in their events, and attending the annual WOW International Ride-In.
We, the NORTHWIND RIDERS, are like a family. We enjoy and care for each other. We watch out for each other on and off the road! Take note of this year's ride/event schedule. We hope to meet each and everyone of you sometime through out the riding season, and strengthen our "fellowship".
KEEP THE SHINY SIDE UP & THE RUBBER SIDE DOWN!
