Chatty visits New Salem State Park just outside of Petersburg, Illinois
This is Lincolns New Salem State Historic Site.

These are two statues at the park. One is at the entrance and the other is at the top of the hill outside the Visitor's Center. Lots of people get their picture taken in front of the statues.

Inside the Visitor's Center there is a lot of neat stuff to look at. This is a model of The Talisman. It is a boat that you can ride down the Sangamon River on just like Lincoln did. The boat only runs certain times of the year though so we didn’t get to ride.

Here is the entrance to the village. You can see how big it is and where all the cabins are.

This is the first cabin. Only a few are open in the winter. In the summer you can go into the cabins and there are people dressed in period costume who tell you all about the house and the people that lived there and what it was like then.

This is a work shop where they make barrels and buckets. We only went a little farther because there was too much ice, snow, and water on the path. It was really cold and Dale's feet were wet so we decided to go back home. But we did have fun seeing everything.
