VACATION 2004

Whistler, British Columbia,is located just north of Vancouver and the road which takes you there is a lovely two hour drive along the coastal "Sea to Sky" highway. In 2010 Whistler will be hosting the Winter Olympic games. The scenery, nonetheless, during the summer is outstanding, as Whistler is nestled between the towering mountains which surround it. The village itself is a top-notch ski resort, but also caters to summer hikers, mountain bikers, and golfers. All resort parking is entirely underground which certainly helps to maintain the village's charm and unique character. Lots of people, shops, and restaurants, but virtually, no cars in sight.

Whistler-British Columbia

Some of the words we would choose to describe the drive from Vancouver to Whistler would be: "breathtaking, beautiful, and exasperating". However, it is not safe for anyone when drivers attempt to watch both the road and the scenery. Under such circumstances, one might add the word "treacherous". The road was extremely curvy at times. Because BC is getting ready for the 2010 Winter Olympics, their highway department is constantly working to expand the road. They even completely close down the road during the evening hours so construction crews can work without interuption of travelers. We were careful not to stray too far from Whistler in the late hours.

We had a wonderful relaxing stay at the Delta Whistler Resort. Our room had two separate bedrooms, two baths, kitchenette, balcony, and served a morning breakfast delivered daily as part of the plan. Joffre Lake is just beautiful. If you take day-long hikes, which we did, you have the opportunity to reach many glacier fed lakes. One hike was long and somewhat challenging, but worth every difficult step and climb.
