Summer Bridge 2002
Week 6 Highlights
PIZZA PARTY!
After meeting at the LARES office in SSB, the Summer Bridge and LARES staff members made their way over to 250 BSB. Here we see Tatiana Suarez Pico, Cesiah Banuelos Robles, Belia Gonzalez McDonald, and Vanessa Padilla leaving SSB.
The students were in 250 BSB, waiting for the program to begin.
Belia, Tatiana, and Cesiah go over the program with Anne Flanagan, Summer Bridge Coordinator. LARES counselor Alfredo Rueda also listens in on the conversation.
First on the agenda was the Summer Bridge Evaluation Form. The students were asked for their comments about the program. Such feedback helps in planning future Summer Bridges.
Math Instructor Luissette has a few words with some of her students.
Vanessa Padilla begins the program by passing out the LARES "Student Survival Guide". She emphasized some of the crucial points presented in the Guide.
As Vanessa spoke the students followed along, reading from the Guide.
Tatiana taked about the Latino Mentorship Program (LMP), a program in which each Summer Bridge student must participate during their freshman year at UIC.
Here we see both Tatiana and Vanessa sharing their thoughts with the students. Many questions were asked and answered at this time.
Next on the schedule was Belia. She congratulated the students on their completion of the SB program. Next she asked the students to consider joining in on a walk/run that would benefit cardiac research. Many students expressed their interest by raising their hands.
A "sign up" sheet was passed around while Belia answered student questions.
The talking part of the program was now finished. It was time for a little fun. Alfredo Rueda had worked hard to prepare a little gift bag for each of the students. He arranged for UPS to donated tee shirts, pens, keychains and other "goodies" for the students.
As some of the students chatted, waiting for their gift....
other students were accepting their bag of goodies.
