Okay, here’s the second part to Stay, enjoy it and please PLEASE write me about it :) Think of it as a nice birthday present for me (my birthday’s tomorrow, I’m going to be 16) Disclaimer: I don’t own Sailor Moon, I’m too tired to think of anything funny :) How this all happen? How did everything fall apart so quickly all in one short night? Usagi cast her wet eyes skyward to watch the first raindrop sprinkle down from the heavens. The sky matched her mood, dark and brooding in nature. It was as stormy as Mamoru’s eyes when she had told him of her scholorship. *Flashback* “Usagi-chan, you look absolutely stunning this evening.” Mamoru whispered softly in her ear as he swiftly pulled out her chair. She pulled lightly on the pale pink halter dress that clung to her curves. A light blush sprung to her cheek as she gratefully took the seat, “Thank you Mamo-chan, you look quite stunning yourself.” He wore a gray suit with a starched white shirt and a black tie with tiny red roses scattered upon it. He smiled warmly as he sat down across from her, their eyes met and seemed to waltz with each other. Neither could pull their respective gazes from the other. “So has anything new happened since we talked yesterday?” he asked her softly as he took a sip of his water. She shook her head quickly, trying not to let on that she had important life changing news to tell him. “No, nothing much, I chatted with Rei a little last night on the phone.” at this point during the meal, they seemed more like strangers, rather than close friends. Mamoru was picking up a vibe that he had never really felt much before from Usagi, she was distant and preoccupied. “Usagi-chan, do you have something else on your mind tonight? You seem distracted by something.” She tried to smile and play it off, she wasn’t ready to tell him yet. She was afraid of his reaction, what if didn’t care if she was leaving or not, what if he cared too much? “Are you ready to order yet Sir?” a waiter interrupted the silence and Usagi looked at the young man gratefully for the escape. “I am, I’ll have the Caesar salad with dressing on the side.” Mamoru looked at her as if she had three heads, “Is that all you’re having? I thought for sure you would want to try one of their entrees.” “I’m not really hungry tonight Mamoru.” he nodded and quickly ordered for himself. “Did you just call me Mamoru?” he asked her while handing the menus to the waiter. After watching the young couple for a few moments more, the waiter had decided to hightail it out of there, this had to be the calm before the storm. Usagi looked at him thoughtfully for a second before answering, “Yes, I suppose I did.” He still stared at her disbelieving, “You haven’t called me that in ages, what is with you tonight?” “Nothing Mamo-chan, what makes you think that?” she giggled softly, trying to stay away from this topic in conversation, there was no sense in ruining the entire dinner now. She was at least going to wait until dessert to spoil their fun. Not that they were having much to begin with. “This is not the Usagi I know, this is the Usagi that is hiding something from me. I want to know what is making you so nervous tonight.” She unfolding her napkin and busied herself by folding it and placing it carefully into her lap. Mamoru watched her intently, every second that passed made him more and more angry. She never kept things from her, she was like an open book. She and him were confidants in one another. They helped each other keep their sanity during hard times. “I would never hide anything from you Mamor-, Mamo-chan.” she caught herself mid word and he became more infuriated with her. “It’s personal and I don’t wish to talk about it at this particular time.” “Since when does something being personal have anything to do with you not telling me. As long as we have been friends we have told one another everything Usagi-chan, is this so important that you can’t tell one of your closest friends?” he grasped her right hand gently. “Mamo-chan I don’t know how to tell you this but... I got accepted into a college, I got the letter yesterday.” she faked a smile, the hardest part to tell him was still to come. His eyes lit up with happiness and squeezed her hand. “That’s fantastic Usagi-chan, which university was it? Tokyo or-” she cut him off quickly, “It’s not on this island.” His eyes narrowed, as if he were deep in thought, “Then where is it? The only major universities are located around Tokyo.” she drew in a deep breath, “I got accepted to Princeton, in America Mamo-chan. I start in a few weeks, it was a last minute decision to take me as part of the program I signed up for during the summer.” silence fell over the table immediately. “That’s... that’s great, I’m very excited for you. Wow America, that’s a big deal. Princeton is one of the best universities around.” she wasn’t listening to him, she was still in shock from his reaction, she was hoping that maybe... well it would be too much to ask that he confess his feelings for her now. Their relationship was completely platonic, what would be the need to change it now? Well besides her deep feelings for the dark-haired man that sat across from her. She wanted to be with him, more than anything. He was the reason she was reluctant to leave. “Are you okay Mamo-chan?” she asked him softly, she touched his hand carefully, he seemed suddenly out of it. “Hai, of course. I was just expecting news of a different sort, some that maybe would have kept you in Tokyo for awhile longer. Are you going to go?” Last night she had lain awake for hours, balancing the decision in her head. It was far too good of an opportunity to pass up, but could she leave everything behind for four years of her life. In the end the opportunity side had won out, but she fell asleep that night feeling as if something inside her had suddenly died. “Yes Mamo-chan, I’m going to go. Unless...” she trailed off delicately, he leaned forward to catch the rest of what she had to say, “Unless what Usagi-chan?” “You can give me some good reason to stay. I tried to think of one last night, but I could only come up with one, and I’m not even sure of it.” He sat back slowly, this was his chance, if she left now, she would be out of his life forever. They would meet again someday of course, but she would find someone before then. A cute rich American boy perhaps, a college guy who could promise her the world. “I think you should go, you have no reason to stay here. It’s such a great opportunity for you, you shouldn’t let it slip away.” “Why does everyone keep telling me that? I know it’s a great opportunity, don’t you think I know that? I want to know what you think Mamo-chan, not some stupid generic excuse. You are my closest friend right now, please give me some advice.” “I think you should go.” his heart wasn’t in his words, she knew that they weren’t. She tried to convince herself of that, that in his heart he wanted her to stay and he just wasn’t saying it. “If that’s what you really feel, then maybe I should go. I’ve always wanted to go to America.” she thought to herself. Tears threatened to fall, and she wanted to let them. She wanted to confess how she felt to him, that she didn’t want to leave Tokyo, she didn’t want to leave him, but it would all be in vain if he didn’t feel the same way. What would be the use of telling him if he would only push her away? “Is there anything that you can think of, please Mamo-chan, anything at all?” she grasped for something, all she needed was a reason... “No.” he whispered. Everything in his body told him to tell her how he felt, but his mouth wouldn’t form the words. She nodded slowly and stood up from the table. “I’m sorry, I’m just not very hungry anymore. I have to go.” she ran out the front door of the restaurant leaving Mamoru alone, and wondering what to do. *end flashback* She let herself into her house, and shut the door silently behind her. The storm had gotten worse in the last five minutes, causing Usagi to make a mad dash down her street to reach the shelter of her house. Soaked to the bone and still crying she sat down at the bottom of the stairs and put her face in her hands and wept for her love. To be continued...
