Olivia Foxworth and Olivia Logan are a lot like.
--They are headstrong women who are sensible.
--They help with the family business.
--Both had two sons and took someone else's daughter and raised as her own.
--Both loved a handsome man (Nelson and Malcolm) who were attracted to beautiful women (Belinda and Alicia).
In FitA, the Dresden Dolls are locked away in attic in 1957, when Cathy is
12. In SoY, Cathy says,"and so it came to pass the summer I was
fifty-two and Chris was fifty-four.." Chronologically, that would have taken place in 1997,
which would be thirteen years after SoY was published.
There is a traditional five-book pattern that several of the series follow fairly well. The
first book introduces us to the heroine and shows us her life with her usually poor, but
caring family. Soon she is thrown into a richer family, that usually has a cruel family
member or two to cause hardships for the heroine. She is then sent to boarding school and
stays there for most of the second book. Usually, she finds a new friend and/or a love
interest. Then she gets herself in trouble (i.e. pregnancy or conflict with other girls at
school) In the third book, the heroine is beginning her adult life with her love and her
child. There are usually several family conflicts in this book. By the end, the heroine might
have had another baby. The fourth book tells the story of the heroine's daughter. She is
haunted by the heroine's shadowy past. Also something happens to her parents (the heroine
and her husband). There is usaully some sort of happy ending to "end" the series. The
fifth book goes back to the beginning and tells the story of the heroine's mother or
grandmother.
Discrepancies in this theory: In the Logan series, the fourth book MitN, tells the story of
Melody's cousin, Laura. Also, the Dollanganger series doesn't stick to the pattern as much
as the other series do. Obviously, MSA doesn't either, since it's a
stand-alone novel, not a series. And the mini-series don't go along with the pattern either.
The wordings are very similiar in the Doll and Cutler series. Examples:
In Dawn, when Philip rapes Dawn, it says: "Suddenly I felt his hardness press itself firmly
against me until he forced in that swollen, rigid male sex part of him that had to be
statisfied. It drove into my tight and resisting flesh, which tore and bled."
In FitA, when Chris Jr. rapes Cathy, it says: "And that's where he took me, and forced
in that swollen, rigid male sex part of him that had to be satisfied. It drove into my tight
and resisting flesh which tore and bled."
In SotM, Jimmy says to Dawn: "How beautiful you are. I remember when you were younger.
You were so shy about your body, always wanting to wear loose sweaters so I couldn't see."
In PotW, Chris Jr says to Cathy: "How beautiful your breasts are. I remember you were
flat, and then you began to grow. You were so shy about them, always wanting to wear
loose sweaters so I couldn't see."
Incest is a major part of VC's books.
Dollanganger: Chris Sr. & Corinne; Chris Jr. & Cathy
Casteel: Heaven & Troy; Tony & Leigh
Cutler: Philip & Dawn; Philip & Christie
Landry: Paul & Ruby
Logan: Chester & Haille; Melody & Cary
Orphans: Raven & Reuben
Wildflowers: Cat & Howard
In FitA, Cathy says the words "heaven", "dawn", "ruby", and "melody."
In FitA, Cathy says that Chris Sr. died on his thirty-sixth birthday. In GoS, Corrine
wrote that Chirs died on his thrity-fifth birthday.
When Heaven looks at her mother's photo album in DA, she notices that Leigh's smile
fades when a LIGHT-haired man appears (Tony). Later, when heaven discovers Tony is her
father, she says she got her DARK hair from him.
Logan Stonewall's middle name changes from Grant to Robert across the books.
Melody Logan--MELODIE Marquet and LOGAN Stonewall
Cathy and Heaven have the same middle name: Leigh.
In DA, when Heaven is flying to see Keith and Our Jane, she flies out of LOGAN Airport,
a real airport in Boston.
VC Andrews always used the words breasts, bosom, and cleavge, but there were certain
words she wouldn't use. She would only say maleness, manliness, or hardness.
Carrie, Heaven and Ruby were treated cruelly by there classmates at boarding school. (In
the second book of their series.)
Heaven sneaks off to meet Troy in his cottage and gets pregnant. Gabriel sneaks off to
meet Pierre in his cottage and gets pregnant.
In HS when Melody and Cary are about to make love in her room after Jacob's heart attack, Melody worries
about being quiet so Sara and May won't hear them. May is deaf; how could she hear them?
On page 329 of HS Aunt Sara's name is misspelled Sarah.
On page 89 in TC Trisha Kramer's name is misspelled Tricia.
