For several years, this mama goose has made her nest in a planter next to a church. It is right at the entrance to a preschool, and papa goose is always nearby to protect her and the eggs.

The little children go by her day after day to school and see the miracle of birth as it unfolds.

It makes you wonder, doesn't it? Why would a wild goose pair nest so close to civilization year after year. What would make them feel safe enough to nest here.

~  Perhaps it is nothing more simplistic than their parents, and their parents before them, nested on this land in this particular spot.

~  Or perhaps it is more mystical that this pair was meant to share their lives with, and teach, us

Whatever you believe, these children are so very fortunate to be able to share and witness the bonds and family values of the wild goose so close. It is an amazing experience.

Within a day after the babies are born, the family heads off to a nearby pond. It is via a treacherous road and not only do mama and papa goose guide and guard them, but they are helped by other adult geese, perhaps their aunts and uncles from last year.
