Doping and Drug Abuse

Drug abuse, be it for performance enhancement or for recreational use, is another problem in the skating world today. The ISU and many national skating associations have set up a program for drug testing at national and international competitions. What some skaters may not realize is that many prescription medications, and even over-the-counter medicines, may also be considered prohibited substances under the doping rules. Drug abuse links

Please note that these pages are only to be used as a reference point for skaters. The complete ISU communication on doping and drug testing can be found at this location as a PDF file from the ISU's website. The PDF also includes a list of examples of prohibited substances. The status of certain medications may change between now and the next competition season; be SURE to check with the ISU or your own national organization's drug committee!!!
