Let's take a
look now at some U.S.
coins. Our coins are minted in four places, Philadelphia, Pennysylvania,
Denver, Colorado, San Francisco, California, and West Point, New York.
Now we will examine how a coin is minted.
Some people like to collect coins. They are called numismatists. Here's a poem by Shel Silverstein about a boy who traded his dollar for
some coins. The poem is called Smart.
Do you think this is a good title for this poem? Why or why not?
You
now get a chance to design
your own coin. Open up your paint program on your computer and draw your coin. Then we'll look at the design of the new quarters that were
introduced in 1999. What is so special about the new quarters?
Compare them to the old quarters.
