Found in the pacific plate, north of the equator from Japan to Hawaii. Found at depths of 3 to 46 meters.

Mainly found grazing on algae.
Social Behaviors:
Can get territorial espically f another tang is added to a tank with an already established tang. In nature they occour singly or in pairs in lagoons and along outer reefs in dense coral growths.
