The Airline Pilot's Historical Society is a non-profit, charitable foundation whose purpose is to educate through the preservation of aircraft parts and components. Aircraft control wheels, throttle quadrants, instruments, oxygen masks, life vests etc., from dismantled aircraft are used to provide "Hands On" experience to school children in order to stimulate interest in aviation. We also provide financial assistance to children's hospitals and organizations that specialize in the needs of children.
We have no paid employees; we are all retired or active airline pilots, and we volunteer our time at no charge.
No components are intended to be used on airworthy aircraft
- Instead, we hope to further the preservation process by making these items available to collectors.
WHO ARE WE?
I'm a retired United Airlines Captain and the APHS Chairman. My son Chris, (AA 767 F/O) is an APHS officer. My son Jeff, is a pilot and the Website Manager and my oldest son Rich, for the past 5 years has traveled the country in his spare time, as our aviation archaeologist. We're not in the business of selling aircraft parts. We do make available to collectors and home sim builders, parts and artifacts to be used in those applications. Our goal is "education through the preservation of artifacts that otherwise might be lost". We have no employees or administrative overhead, and not one soul is on our payroll. We're also listed with the IRS as a 501-C3 Foundation.

For the past eleven years, those of us at APHS have worked hard on educational, aviation. We have donated generously, and regularly to children's hospitals, homeless shelters that specialize in families with children and other important entities of that type. Ironically, my own family has seen the problem from the inside recently. in November of 2006 our 5 year-old grandson, Brian, was hospitalized, fighting what has turned out to be a disease very hard to diagnose and tough to cure. Macrophage Activation Syndrome strikes only 1 in 2 million children, usually girls. My son Chris, (AA 767 F/O), who is an APHS officer, is Brian's father. I won't dwell on the agony the little guy endured during his treatment and apparent cure, but I will say that having seen the experience first hand, our hearts go out to families in similar situations. It is a tiring, heartbreaking, tortuous struggle, and too often the end result is even worse than the journey. We have adopted a new and stronger commitment to our APHS goals. Your support through purchases or donations is required, and I am not ashamed to ask for your continued loyalty.
The gloves are off. Sick kids need our help...they'll get it.

UPDATE:On 8/8/07, Brian had his final evaluation to determine whether the treatment for his MAS has succeeded.We are pleased to announce that he has a clean bill of health. To all of you who have sent your kind words and prayers over the past months,we extend our sincere appreciation. To the doctors and staff of Children's Memorial Hospital, there are no words to express our appreciation.You saved Brian's life, and we are eternally grateful. APHS will continue to support your work.

Very sorry to report that on 4/6/07, a fire of unknown origin destroyed the hangar belonging to Thacker Aviation, in Chenoa Illinois.Four airplanes were lost, burned literally to dust, including our ERCOUPE. Capt. Bill Thacker, UAL, has maintained our airplanes for many years and is a close friend.We suffer for the loss of his 195, his hangar and the logistical nightmare he faces. Our airplane can be replaced.
With our Ercoupe's blazing exit from the earth, we have filled the void with N9080B.Our new addition is a 1958 Aeronca 7FC. While the basic airframe is derived from the 7AC Champ, it is propelled (hah) by a 90 instead of the usual 65,and has the all important electrical system with a real starter. In keeping with our "preservation" mission, this was an obvious choice.During the late 50's and early 60's, the Tri-Champ was used by the University of Illinois to train many aspiring professional pilots. (GO PURDUE).

If you're wondering why we bothered to restore a Navion, being that we are essentially an airline oriented foundation, here's one reason:In 1949, McCreery Aviation, at the Central Valley Airport in Texas, operated Navion N8754H (not ours) in scheduled airline service,operating as VAL-AIR, serving San Antonio, Houston and other towns in south central Texas.
Our 747
Alas, it sold. We got a buyer for our 747 and sorry to say, adios amigo. It went to a branch of the US GOV., to be used for some ultra-secret research.At least it has avoided the Coors factory.
Our 737


We were able to acquire this very recent 737-300 in January of 2009.Somehow it managed to get from Brazil to the USA with a broken spar...yes,it actually flew the line for some length of time before the crack was discovered.Then, the owners found a crew brave enough to fly it to the USA for disposition.Where do we get such men?
The aircraft has been stripped of all parts that anyone would want,but it does have a pretty complete cabin. All overheads, trim, most seats, galleys, are still aboard.We will entertain discussions of purchase from interested buyers. Please direct questions to
