Shoulder Guards
Weapon

Roman plate shoulder guards, such as you see in the picture above, were not introduced until about 50 A.D. with the invention of the Lorica Segmentata.  The legionar above is from the late Empire, and oddly enough is wearing a custom cuirass, similar to an earlier muscle cuirass.  He probably holds the rank of Centurion or higher, though it is very odd for him to be wearing the shoulder piece of a Lorica Segmentata
The shoulder guards of Midlight are the best protection available for your shoulders, however they tend to weigh an awful lot (what you expected solid plate armor to be light?).  They are made of solid beaten bronze, though iron ones have popped up here and there, and provide excellent protection for both shoulders.  While these are the best armor for your shoulders that a good denarius will buy, I'd recommend most warriors to go with the mail shoulder guards.  They offer almost as much protection, but they weigh an awful lot less.
