The soldier in the picture above is wielding a sarissa. The weapon is so long that a picture of it wouldn't fit on this page. According to Polybius, an ancient Roman historian, the Sarissa was about 6.3 meters in length, though Polybius claims to have seen some that where as long as 7 meters. The pike was weighted on the far end so the entire weapon balanced exactly where the soldier was to hold it. These pikes where intended for use in a phylanx and never for individual combat. The Sarissa's of Midlight are seen mainly in the armies of the Aestivan Leauge, however they have also made their way into the Tuchean armies as well(mainly due to the Tuchean's heavy relience of mercenary troops). The Sarissa is a very effective weapon when used in mass phylanx however in individual combat it is next to worthless. It's extreme length makes it next to impossible to hit it's intended target, allowing a foe to easily close with the user, dispatching him in close combat. However if your lucky enough to hit your opponent with a sarissa, you can count on massive damage. Due to being primarily a weapon used in mass formations, and an Aestivan weapon to boot, it can not be found in any shop in the Republic. Those wishing to purchase it, must wait for a passing merchant, or buy one off someone who has faced the Aestivan phylanx. Sarrisa's are available at: No where they, are no longer found on Hoplite's, and so must be purchased
at custom item events.
