Leather Helmet

  We know Roman auxiliary units did wear leather helmets, however because they were made of leather, there are no surviving pieces.  We don't, then, know what they might have looked like.  The picture above is of a later dark ages helmet, but it has a number of things in common with later Roman helmets, such as the cheek pieces, and the cross bracing on the top.
  A leather helmet is more then likely the first piece of armor a new comer to the city will receive.  They are found in abundance in the alleys or the forests.  They may also be purchased at Harachs, the variety he sells are believed to be better protection then the ones off the brutes in the alleys.  Leather helmets are fairly adequate head protection but I recommend that if you plan on doing any serious fighting you buy a bronze helmet when you get the money.
