Buckler
Weapon

While the buckler got it's name from the English in the Middle Ages, it was in fact in use much earlier then that.  It saw use by Roman velites, by gladiators in the arena, the Greeks had a version of the buckler called the parma, and by many other cultures under a host of different names.  What makes a buckler differ from a normal shield is size, very rarely is a buckler above a foot across.  These are very small shields, used almost as an extension of ones fist to block an opponents weapon.  Unlike most shields, a buckler can be used as an offensive weapon as well, part of the reason the were so popular, was the ease with which you could either block with it, or block with your sword, and smash your opponent in the face with the buckler.
The buckler doesn't see much use in Iridine's legions, except for the occasional velite, who uses one.  It is mainly used by the Cineran army.  Cineran's have developed a very deadly form of dirk and buckler combat, that underscores both weapons size, and emphasis their attack power, making a trained warrior extremely vicious.  The only problem is that it takes a well trained warrior to do this, and as the majority of the Cineran army is now peasant hordes, these are in short supply.

The Buckler is available at:

Only found off of dead Cinerans.
