About Our Congregation

Temple Israel serves the Jewish communities in the Alton/Godfrey, Wood River, Bethalto, Edwardsville and Maryville/Glen Carbon areas of Southwestern Illinois.

Rabbi Jay Goldburg leads our monthly services, while members of the Temple join together to conduct many of our less formal holiday services and events.

Our monthly Shabbat services are family services held on Friday evenings. Other family holiday services and events are scheduled throughout the year in keeping with our mission to make both the spiritual and the festive occasions and celebrations accessible to the entire community.

Temple Israel is affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism, the Southern Illinois Jewish Federation and the Federation of Reform Temples in the St. Louis, Missouri area.

Temple Israel has been serving the Jewish community since 1923. The Temple moved to its current location at 609 West Delmar Avenue in Alton, Illinois, in 2004.
