OPEN WITH: BAY CITY POLICE STATION - FOCUS ON JOSIE

Josie answers the phone at her desk in the Police Station.

Josie:  Detective Sinclair, how can I help you?

Josie: Yes, this is her.  Whom am I speaking with?

Josie:  Oh, hi, how are you?

Josie:  How is Queenie?

Josie:  She did, oh my, when did it happen?

Josie:  Okay, well, when is the funeral?

Josie: uh, huh (writing something down with tears streaming down her cheeks)

Josie:  Yes, definitely, we will be there.

Josie:  And we will tell Rain, of course.

Josie:  Don't worry about a thing, we will do it in a very nice manner.

Josie:  Thanks Michael, thanks for calling.

Josie:  We will be seeing you then.  I'm very sorry about Queenie, I know that she was very important to you.

Josie said goodbye and hung up the phone.  Oh my, she thought, tears still streaming down her face.  I wonder how she is going to handle this news, not well I assume.  How does one tell their child that their grandmother, practically a mother, has died.  Rain knew it was coming but the two of them have still be communicating everyday by email, and every week by phone calls.  Josie had just started back to work at the police station on a very important theft case, but she knew that she would have to take a week off of work to help Rain get through this.  She figured that Gary would want to do the same.

This is going to be very hard, Josie thought, looking up at the clock.  Oh goodness, Rain is out of school in one short hour.  How am I going to tell her?  Should I wait for Gary to come home?  What do I do?

Josie picked up the phone and called Gary on his pager.  She decided to leave a voicemail message in hopes that he would call right back.  She then followed it up with the phone number to the police station with a 911.

Josie (leaving message):  Gar, its Jos, I have some real bad news, can you call me right away.  We need to talk.

Just then Joe Carlino walked into the police station, very quietly and headed for his office.  Josie knew that she needed to tell him right away, knew that he would understand, but also hated to have to tell him this.

Josie:  Joe, um, can I talk to you for a second.

Joe motioned his hand towards his office.  Josie went inside and Joe closed the door.  Through the window we can see Josie sit down across from Joe Carlino and begin possibly explaining the situation with her hands.

The phone in the office begins to ring and ring and ring, when finally, Officer Tibbs picks it up.

Officer Tibbs:  Bay City Police Department, Officer Tibbs speaking, how may I help you?

Officer Tibbs:  Yeah, Gary, Josie is in with Joe Carlino right now.

Officer Tibbs:  Sure thing hold on a second.

Officer Tibbs sets down the phone and walks over to Joe's office and knocks on the door.  A tearful Josie turns around to see who was at the door. (Storm)

CUT TO: CORY MANSION - FOCUS ON AMANDA

Amanda stood at the door to the Cory/Hutchins mansion in the early evening hours.  She was shaking like a leaf, but was so angry with her mother that  she knew what to do.  She planned on hand delivering her mother's and Carl's invitation to the grand opening of Frame Publishing.  Her brother Matthew opened the door for her luckily, buying her some more well deserved time before another ugly confrontation with her mother and her mother's husband.

Matt:  Amanda.  My God, it's great to see you.

Amanda:  Hi Matthew, I haven’t seen you in like forever.  How are things? How is Donna?

Matt:   She's doing really well.  There's still some tension with her father being back
in town--or should I say back from the dead.  But I'm really proud of the way she's handling it.  But what about you?  I feel like I haven't seen you in years.

Amanda:  You know, the same old thing every day.  Nothing much new is going on. How is Alli?  Is she home?

Matt: No.  I'm not really sure where she is.  But she has to check in with Mom and Carl wherever she goes.

Amanda:  What about Mom?  Or Carl?

Matt: Mom's here.  She seems all right, but she's been awfully irritable since you left.
Carl's at the office.  He's had to pick up a lot of the slack since . . . I really need to talk
to you about Cory.

Amanda:  You do?  Really?  Cant it wait until another time?

Matt:  We haven't exactly been spending a lot of time together. There's no telling when we can have this conversation again.

Amanda:  Okay, we can talk now.

Matt:  Mom's very upset about your going to work for Evan Frame. Besides the fact that both she and Carl are putting in extra time to get your work covered, she really mi--

Amanda:  Oh don’t you start in on me now too Matt.  I chose to work for Evan
because we have a history together, and if you haven’t noticed, my job at Cory has practically been phased out by Carl.

Matt:  Well, for somebody who was phased out, you sure kept busy there.  And I don't see how your history with Evan can cancel out your history with Cory Publishing.  My God, Amanda, it our father's--

Amanda:  Dont you dare Matthew Cory.  Don’t start comparing my father to Evan Frame.  You know that they don’t compare.  But consider this, Mackenzie Cory would shutter if he knew that Carl Hutchins was running his company.

Matt:  That's beside the point.

Amanda:  No that is not beside the point.

Matt:  The problems between Mac and Carl are history.  We've moved past that.  Or at least some of us have.  Holding that old grudge nearly destroyed this family--for both of us. It's obvious that Mom loves Carl, and I'm really beginning to see how much he's changed.  You're just going to have to learn to live with him.

Amanda: Are we done here Matt, I mean, I know your feelings on this, but I  am not changing my mind.

Matt:  So you're ready to forget that we were ever a family?

Amanda:  No, and I haven’t forgotten that I have a daughter.  I kept her  with Evan and I for a whole week when she was in trouble.

Matt:  She was in trouble because she's out of control.  And your running off with her just made it worse.  Now she knows that whenever things get too hot for her around here she can run away to Mommie, where she doesn't have to take any responsibility for her actions.

Amanda: Oh come on Matt, Alli is fine, she is just fine.  She’s going to school right?

Matt:  Well, she goes somewhere during the day.  But we can't follow her every minute, and it's getting so nobody can trust her any more.

Amanda:  I doubt that, when Jasmine gets to be Allis age, Ill make sure to tell you how to raise your daughter, but for now, I am not asking for your advice.

Matt:  Well maybe you need it.  I don't know what's happened to you Amanda, but you're certainly making a mess out of your life--and Alli's.

Amanda:  Nothing happened to me, you are all just on my case about every simple decision that I make.  Leave me alone.  Now, if you are done, I am going to go find Mom.

Amanda left her brother standing in the foyer and went directly to the only place in the house that her mother could be found lately; the office. (Written by: Sara for Amanda and  Frank)

CUT TO: SPLIT SCREEN: GARY STANDING IN UNKNOWN LOCATION ON CELL PHONE AND JOSIE IN POLICE STATION

Josie walked over to the phone in the police department unsure of herself, and picked it up.

Josie:  Gar?

Gary:  What is it Jos?  Is Rain okay.

Josie:  Now she is, but I just got a phone call.

Gary:  What did she do now?

Josie:  Gary??? I am not talking that she did anything wrong.  I have to tell you something.

Gary:  Shoot.

Josie:  Queenie died this morning.

Gary:  Oh my, have you told Rain?

Josie:  Of course not Gar, you and I need to do that together, plus we need to head out to the mountains this evening because the wake is tomorrow morning.

Gary:  They sure are moving fast with this.

Josie:  Yeah, I was shocked too.

Gary: Okay, well I will meet you at the station then?

Josie:  No meet me at home, I just talked to Joe, and I am leaving now.

Gary:  How long did you tell him that we needed off?

Josie:  I figured about a week.

Gary:  Okay we will talk more about this when we get home, see you in say half an hour?

Josie: Will be there, and so will Rain, I will wait for you to tell her about Queenie.

Gary:  She is going to take this hard isn't she?

Josie:  Yes she is. (Storm)

CUT TO: CORY MANSION - FOCUS ON AMANDA

After the little argument that Amanda had had with Matthew, she was more than ready to hand deliver this invitation to her mother.  If he hadn't done anything else, he had given her more resolve to complete this task.  She was positive that Matthew had finally taken a small break from Donna long enough to hear about her leaving Cory Publishing for Frame Publishing.  Ha, it only took him a moment to notice.  He is so self-involved lately.

Rachel was sitting at her desk ready to go and see what was keeping Claudia from calling them to dinner when Amanda stormed in.

Rachel:  And what do I owe this visit to?

Amanda:  You owe it to Frame Publishing.

Rachel:  What is it now?

Amanda:  Oh nothing, by the way, how is my daughter doing?

Rachel:  Why don't you ask her yourself, she is upstairs.

Amanda:  According to Matt she isn't even home.

Rachel:  She should be, but oh well, I guess that she is my problem now again right?

Amanda:  Is she a problem?

Rachel:  Alli Fowler is not a problem, but her actions are very troublesome Amanda.  You should be here watching over her, and supporting her.

Amanda:  What is wrong now mom?

Rachel:  Alli hasn't been eating, sleeping, doing homework, or even asking to go out.  She is plain depressed.

Amanda:  Alli depressed?

Rachel:  Maybe you should take a break from Evan and his hateful company to check things out for yourself.  You are her mother.

Amanda:  I don't need at all to be reminded of who I am.

Rachel:  Of course not, now Amanda what can I do for you?  (Rachel's tone becoming very businesslike)

Amanda:  You can take this.  (handing Rachel a white envelope with calligraphy writing on it).

Rachel:  What is this Amanda?

Amanda:  This, mother is your invitation to the opening party for Frame Publishing.

Rachel: (not wanting to start a fight):  Thank you, I will try to make it along with Carl.

Amanda:  Great!  I will see you then.  I have to run, bye mom.

Rachel:  Bye Amanda.

Amanda left as quickly as she came in, leaving Rachel to tear up the invitation and shove it in the wastepaper basket. (Sara and Becky)

CUT TO: SINCLAIR RESIDENCE - FOCUS ON JOSIE

Josie was sitting at the table after booking a flight to the mountains for the funeral when Rain came in.

Josie:  Hi sweetie.

Rain:  Have you been crying, you don't look okay.  What is wrong?

Josie:  Oh its nothing honey, Gary will be here in just a moment and then we can talk about it.

Rain:  Okay, whatever.

Josie:  Do you want something to eat?

Rain:  No, I went out for pizza with Steven after school.

Josie:  That sounds like fun.  So what are you guys a couple now?

Rain: Hardly.

Just then Gary walked in just about as solemn as Josie was.  He looked at Rain, and realized that the news he and Josie had for her was just going to shatter her world.  At just that moment, the girls were laughing and one wouldn't know that anything was wrong except for Josie's bloodshot tear stained eyes.

Gary:  Jos, did you two talk?

Josie:  No, I was waiting for you.

Rain: What is wrong guys?  You both look like you lost your puppy.

Gary:  Rain, why don't you and Josie come sit down.  We have to tell you something.

Rain:  This is bad isn't it?

Josie nodded her head and looked to Gary for support as they all came in and sat on the couch.  Rain couldn't imagine what they had to tell her that could be so bad.

Rain:  Is Jay okay?

Josie:  Jay is fine.

Gary:  Rain, Josie got a phone call at the police department today.

Josie:  Your grandmother passed away this morning.

Rain:  NO, NO, Grandma didn't pass away yet.  I got email for her.  She and I chatted just yesterday.  NO way.  Don't lie to me.

Gary:  (getting up to comfort a now violent Rain):  Rain, sweetie, we aren't lying.  Queenie slipped away from this world quietly this morning.

Rain began sobbing and avoiding both Gary and Josie who were going to calm her down.  But neither had any luck she just stood there shaking and crying for a good spell, pushing Josie and Gary away.  She was screaming no, over and over and over. (Storm)
