CUT TO: CORY MANSION - INT. LISA AND JAMIE'S BEDROOM
Jamie is sound asleep on top of his bed. His mind is
replaying the events of this afternoon. After getting Alli stabilized
and admitted into the physc ward, he monitored her condition. Since there
was nothing more to do for his niece at this point, he decided to
come home and get some well deserved rest.
He got home from the hospital around 3pm. He was both physically and mentally exhausted. He had not had any sleep in over 32 hours. All he wanted to do was sneak upstairs without anyone seeing him so he could get some sleep. As he entered his bedroom, he found his wife taking a nap. Sleeping next to Lisa on Jamie's pillow was
Precious. Jamie shook his head and smiled. "Well, at least someone is keeping my wife company. Thanks for keeping my side warm, Precious, but you can go now." He picks up the cat and lays her down at the foot of the bed. Jamie lays down next to Lisa and kisses her forehead lightly. Lisa stirs and opens her eyes to see her exhausted husband.
Lisa: Oh, Jamie. You look terrible.
Jamie: Gee, thanks for the compliment.
Lisa: I didn't mean it that way, Jamie. You look like you're about ready to collapse.
Jamie: I am. It was a rough night but Alli's out of the woods.
Lisa: Thank goodness. Did you talk to your mom?
Jamie (stretching out on his back): No, I don't have the strength to deal with anyone or anything right now. I just need some sleep.
Lisa: I understand honey, but there's something we really need to discuss.
Jamie (closing his eyes): Sure babe, what's up?
Lisa: Well, it's Steven. He's moved into the mansion. He wants to live with us. Vicky's a wreck so I invited her and Jake over tonight to discuss the situation. Jamie???
Lisa hears light snoring coming from her husband and realizes that her husband is sound asleep. She runs her hand over Jamie's hair and kisses him on his forehead. "You rest now, Jamie because you'll need to be awake for tonight." Lisa gets up and leaves the bedroom.
INT., DONNA'S LIVING ROOM
Donna and Matt are cuddling on the sofa. There is an open bottle of wine on the coffee table, with two partially full glasses. The stereo is playing "La Rondine."
DONNA: I can't tell you how relieved I am. I just know that we're going to find my missing baby once we go through those files.
MATT: That's certainly a big change from this morning. You're not convinced there's some disaster waiting around the corner.
DONNA: It just took a few hours to sink in. You know, I'd been worrying about my friendship with Cass since he married Lila. But she's not that bad after all. And with all she's been through-
MATT: Like you.
DONNA: Exactly. It's no wonder she was so desperate when she first came to town. You know, I've done some rather horrid things in my time.
MATT: Like trying to run Marley's and Vicki's love lives.
DONNA: Well, I was thinking of how I broke up Peter's romance with Sally Frame. Who knows, if I'd helped them stay together, she might still-
MATT: But then you did try to rescue him from Cecile.
DONNA: Leave it to try and let me off the hook.
MATT: Well, there's one thing I won't let you get away from.
DONNA: You're right. I have to call Reginald.
MATT: I can do it myself if it's really-
DONNA: No, I promised that I would. And talking with Lila today made me realize that much as I despise him, there's really nothing he can do to hurt me. I took that power away from him a long time ago.
Donna gets up and removes her left earring as she goes to the phone. She dials a number in her phone book.
SPLIT SCREEN, DONNA, REGINALD
DONNA: Reginald. This is Donna.
REGINALD: Donna. How was the meeting with Cass? I was hoping you'd call me about it.
DONNA: Everything went fine. Matt and I are going to search a storage locker where Judge Walker put all of Ohlmeyer's files. But that's not why I called you?
REGINALD: I hope it isn't a problem with Victoria or the children.
DONNA: No. I'm sure everything's all right. I haven't heard from her today.
REGINALD: Well, then, what is it?
DONNA: I have a favor to . . . well, it's not really a favor. In fact, I'm calling to do you a favor.
REGINALD: Well, that sounds like a step in the right direction.
DONNA: Really, it's not that big a favor. I just was thinking about you all alone in the big house you bought.
DONNA: And I'm sure you haven't had time to staff it properly.
REGINALD: Well, I'm getting by for now. But once Liz has the place decorated properly, I'm going to be doing a lot more entertaining. Did you have somebody you wanted me to hire?
DONNA: Well, I just heard that Louise Brooks gave her notice to Rachel.
REGINALD: Why? I've heard excellent things about her work.
DONNA: Well . . . (She motions to Matt for help. He comes over and she whispers:) He wants to know why she's leaving.
MATT: You can't just tell him I've been an idiot?
DONNA: I should. But he might be idiot enough not to believe me.
MATT: Tell him about Eddie. It was a conflict of interest.
DONNA: I don't think Louise would like us blabbing about her personal life.
REGINALD: Donna? Are you still there?
DONNA: I'm sorry, Reginald. That was . . . Juanita. She had a question about dinner.
REGINALD: Well, why don't you come over here for dinner, so we can discuss this further.
DONNA: Are you-I mean, I just can't. Juanita's been working days on this special dish, from her home land, and she wanted to know what wine to serve it with.
REGINALD: I can't imagine you needing that much time to choose the right wine.
DONNA: Well, she's so hard to understand . . . . particularly when she gets excited . . . . and cooking for me . . . Anyway, you asked about Louise?
REGINALD: Yes. Why is she leaving the Hutchins?
DONNA: Well, she's been seeing Eddie Carlino. It's really quite sweet. But since he's Paulina's father-in-law, she felt uncomfortable. He's often a guest in the house and . . .
REGINALD: Yes. That could cause a problem. How serious are they? I don't want her leaving to get married or something before I've had a chance to break her in.
DONNA: She didn't lose her husband that long ago. Besides, you can ask her all that at the interview.
REGINALD: She's good with children, too, isn't she?
DONNA: Absolutely. She helped raise Matthew and Amanda, and before that Dennis Wheeler and Jamie Frame.
REGINALD: I'm thinking she might be able to help Victoria, too.
DONNA: What a wonderful idea! She really needs some time for herself. And even when she's home, the twins can be a handful, not to mention Kirkland and Steven-and Jake.
REGINALD: Well, I'll give her a call today. I assume she gave two weeks' notice.
DONNA: Yesterday. So she could start with you on the 15th.
REGINALD: Really, Donna, you could do this with a leaving. I'll leave you out of the salary negotiation, if you don't mind. I'd hate to have to sign the estate over to my housekeeper.
DONNA: I know you'll be very happy with her Reginald.
REGINALD: And once she's settled in, I'll expect you and Mathew for dinner-so I can repay you for this favor.
DONNA: Of course. (Shoots Matt a dirty look) Now I really must run. Juanita is calling me again.
MATT: (In a high-pitched voice) Senora Hudson! Senora Hudson!
Donna has to bite her lip to keep from laughing.
REGINALD: Of course. And tell Matthew he needs Spanish lessons.
DONNA: I certainly will. Goodbye.
END OF SPLIT SCREEN, INT., DONNA'S LIVING ROOM
DONNA: You are terrible! I don't know what I'm going to do with you.
MATT: (Pulling her into his arms) Want me to show you?
FADE OUT (Frank)
CUT TO: INT. CORY MANSION - LIVING ROOM
Steven enters the living room in a black silk robe (resembling a cheap imitation of a smoking jacket) with a pipe in his mouth.
Steven: Jake, let's have this conversation outside where I can smoke this mother nature.
Jake: Gee, Steven, cool threads. You look like a bad copy of Nick Charles from the Thin Man movies. I see you've acquired some more "habits" since you moved in with your Dad.
Steven: No, it really is just a sweet weed that is all natural. Here try some.
Jake took the pipe and crushed it underneath his shoe.
Steven: Well you ruined any chance you had of finding Sean through me by doing that just now, and you can buy me a new pipe.
Jake: If you know something about Sean, you better tell me.
Steven: I will not tell you jack.
Jake: Oh yeah? (Jake grabs Steven by the lapels of his tacky robe) Wanna bet?
Steven: Well obviously Sean didn't care too much about Alli, because he didn't come back when she tried to kill herself. Which if you ask me is the most sane thing that anyone around here has done in a long time.
Jake: (still holding Steven by the lapels) You better start talking before I make you sorry you were ever born. (holding him against the wall) Start talking ... fast.
Steven: I didn't know that he had anything going with Sara. I knew that she liked him, but I thought she disgusted him. He told me once that he wouldn't touch that ugly mug with my?.
Jake: (cutting him off before he could get any more vulgar by putting his forearm against his throat): Cut to the chase. I don't have any time for your R-rated talk slimebag. Hey, you dated her too, maybe it's your kid.
Steven: Yeah I dated her. She was um, too easy so I passed her on to someone else. I guess Sean must have just scooped her up right away.
Jake: Yeah, so whose fool heart are you breaking now?
Steven: Now I am with Rain. The angel of my life.
Jake: Enough of this bantering. Steven, you really don't know where Sean and Sara have gone?
Steven: Naw really man, if I knew where Sean was, I wouldn't tell you. But I would at least let you know he was okay. But I don't have the slightest clue and he doesn't even know of my new forwarding address to get in touch with me.
Jake (lets go of Steven's lapels): Sorry, didn't mean to get rough with you. Let me know if you hear anything. (walks away from Steven)
Steven: Nice talking with you too man. Glad that I don't have to see your ugly mug on a daily basis.
Jake (responding as he walks out the front door to wait for Iris and Dennis to talk to Rachel): The feeling's mutual. (Sara and Jen)
CUT TO: CORY MANSION – INT. LISA’S AND JAMIE’S BEDROOM
Lisa comes back into the bedroom. Jamie is still
sleeping. "What should I do? Should I let him sleep or should
I wake him? Maybe I should call Vicky and tell her tonight won't
work. He's so exhausted. He really needs his rest. Vicky will
just have to understand."
Lisa sits on the side of the bed pondering whether she should wake up Jamie when her decision is made for her. Jamie rolls over and opens his eyes slightly.
Jamie (groggy voice): Hey babe. What a nice surprise. What time is it?
Lisa: Oh, Jamie. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. It's 6 p.m.
Jamie (sitting up to give his wife a kiss): That's OK, you can wake me anytime. (noticing that Lisa seems a bit on edge) Babe, what's wrong? You've got those frown lines that only are visible when there's a problem.
Lisa: You know me too well, Jamie. Yes, there's a problem.
Jamie (sitting directly behind Lisa and putting his arms around her with his hands resting on Lisa' protruding belly): Well we can't have that. Tell Dr. Jamie what seems to be the problem and I'll make it go away.
Lisa (sighing): I wish it were that simple Jamie. It's Steven.
Jamie: What's Steven done now?
Lisa: Well, he moved into the mansion.
Jamie (taking his hands off Lisa as she gets up from the bed): He did what? When? What happened?
Lisa: Do you want the long or short version?
Jamie: I'll take the short version.
Lisa: It seems that Steven had another argument with Jake during the night and it ended with Steven saying that he was going to move in with us. Then he heard about Alli and showed up at the hospital. This morning, there was a terrible scene between he and Vicky. Steven had led us to believe that Vicky had given permission for him to move in with us.
Jamie: Let me guess. That wasn't the truth?
Lisa: No. Far from it. Vicky was a wreck especially after Steven got done hurling lots of hurtful words at his mother.
Jamie: Man, what's gotten into Steven? He's never been this way. Poor Vicky. She doesn't deserve this kind of treatment. Maybe I should go see her.
Lisa: Well, actually she and Jake are coming over here to discuss the situation with us.
Jamie: Good. I think that's best. When are they coming?
Lisa (looking at the clock): In about an hour.
Jamie: Then I guess I better take a quick shower.
Lisa: I'm sorry Jamie. When I set up the time, I didn't realize that you wouldn't have gotten home sooner than mid afternoon.
Jamie: That's OK, babe. This needs to get handled right away. Why don't you go downstairs and see if Claudia can prepare some snacks while I get cleaned up.
Lisa: OK, Jamie. See you downstairs.
