SHUT UP, SAM! NOTHING HAPPENED! - Todd & Sam & Tea

I found this an amazing scene. Sam may not be one of my favorite characters but I certainly liked the relationship he had with Todd. Much has been debated about whether the DID was real partly because of the revelation of this scene. I’m one of the believers that Todd’s father did sexually abuse him after witnessing this scene. RH played it absolutely real, and that’s why I believe it, no matter what was said later before he left. I was transfixed to the screen watching it live, he played it to perfection! I never wanted this to excuse his sins of the past, but it did add another layer to Todd’s many shades of grey. At this point Todd was out of control again, he had just taken almost the whole town hostage at the Lodge to discover the truth about Georgie’s murderer. He is on the run with the police after him again. He was cornered in the cabana with Tea when the police descend upon him, Sam is there and convinces him to let him in to talk to him to get him to surrender. Sam has just entered the cabana with the whole Llanview police force waiting to storm the place.

TODD: (disgusted) Great. (sarcastic) Well now what?

Scene break

TODD: (to Tea) You over here. (he crosses to door and pushes Sam out of the way) You get away from there (locks and checks the door)

SAM: You gotta surrender, pal.

TODD: I’d rather die.

SAM: Well, that be your next alternative if you don’t stop this, and you want Starr to see that?

TODD: It’s not my fault Starr’s here, Blair should take her home.

SAM: Why are you doing this?

TODD: (cocky) If it feels good. (Tea reacts at his flippant attitude)

SAM:Oh, I see, the loner speaks!

TODD: Well, why should I trust anybody, huh? Look where it got me. (pointing to the two of them) I’m stuck in a cabana with two so called friends, spewing a bunch of garbage at me!

SAM: (pointing back) You used to trust me when you were a kid. You talked to me an awful lot. You actually started to open up.

TODD: Yeah I opened up to you once, I wish I never had.

SAM: (realization) Oh....is that what this is about. This...this whole thing, this is about your father?

TODD: (spits out) Shut up about my father!

SAM: No. For years I’ve wondered what happened the night that you tried to kill him. You know when the pain just dropped here, so why don’t you tell me? It had something to do with a girl, right?

TODD: (low, threatening) Shut up, Sam. (Tea looks concerned at Todd)

SAM: No, it was a girl, her name....uh.......uh her name was Michele......

TODD: (louder, more intense) Shut up, Sam!

SAM: She was a cheerleader.

TODD: Shut up! Not in front of Delgado!

SAM: Fine, then let her go!

TEA: (interjecting) Maybe you shouldn’t, Sam.

SAM: No! No, for years I have protected this guy, thinking that if I kept his secrets maybe it would help him but it didn’t, it just kept him sicker, and I became part of the problem. So why don’t you tell me Todd, why don’t you tell me, what happened between you and Michele?

TODD: GET OUT! GET OUT! GET OUT!

Scene break

TODD: Back up from the door, nobody shoot, somebody’s coming out. (has Tea by the arm pushing her out the door)

TEA: What are you so afraid of me hearing, Todd? (Todd pushes her out and closes the door turning back to Sam)

TODD: (with venom) And you. You and all your promises. (mocking) Oh, I’ll always be your friend, I’ll always be there for you! (up in his face) You’re a liar, Sam! (pointedly) YOU are a liar!

SAM: I never lied to you.

TODD: (very angry) You said I would NEVER have to talk about what happened that night. And.....and in front of DELGADO!

SAM: You know something Todd, we’re as sick as our secrets. You got a chance here to get healthy. So, talk to me.
