How do I Use IRC with WebTV

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, it's sort of a network of chat servers on the Internet but it's separate, and works different for WebTV users. WebTV users access chat rooms by going to a WebTV IRC link page or by going through the community link
on the WebTV home page.
If you're a beginner, starting out in a room with fewer people is a good idea, until you get the basic operation figured out.

How do I use a different nic in a chat room using WebTV

The only way to chat with a different nic is to add a new user and then switch to that user.
Note Some chat servers allow webtv users to change their nic in the room ( zuh.net is one )

What are the IRC Commands for WebTV

/who - this gives you a list of the people in the room.

/me - this is the action command, after you type /me hit the spacebar one time then type your message and it will go into the room in purple.

/msg - this is the whisper or private message command, if you type /msg nickname Message it will only be seen by the person you whisper to.

/whois - this will give you information on another chatter, type in /whois nickname (using their actual nick).

/ignore - this command blocks you from seeing what a person types to you only, typing /ignore nickname will keep you from seeing any messages from that person (even Whispers and /msgs from them won't appear on your screen). You can cancel /ignore for that person by typing /ignore -nickname, also you can see a list of everybody you have on ignore by typing /ignore

How do I get to chat rooms.

The best way is to use a custom made webtv IRC, for a list of some IRC'S go here: Mimes IRC List

Another way is :
From your webtv Home page, click Community then Click Chat then Click Goto on the sidebar ( don't use the GoTo key ) In the three boxes on that page, type the info to go to the server you want:

example: server - irc.zuh.net
port # - 6667 (most servers use 6667)
chat room name - ( channel = room name )
