"Neverland", photograph, 2000
109 stepped into the sarcophogus
fully expecting to step back out
with a deafening roar they ascend to the sky
completely content, their destination without doubt
A little turbulence but everything is fine
a faceless voice assures the crowd
the 109 continue chattering
of insignificant events, growing increasingly loud
Suddenly everything becomes distorted
as smoke fills the passengers' eyes
panic engulfs the once tranquil atmosphere
over the screams, someone shouts "We are going to die!"
Split seconds later, the scene once again changes
the chatter as well as the shouts disappear
as the silver tomb sinks into the merciless graveyeard
of inevitable death and utter fear
Hours later the 109 make the front page
as a tragic event, another airline death toll
everyone tries to find a cause to blame
but it is too late for these poor innocent souls
More to ease our fear than avenge their death
a grueling investigations ensues
but should the fault fall on a malfunctional part
or the FAA guidelines, does it matter, it's all just news.
The truth is we all will die
at a time and place unknown
as the 109 victims on that plane
have so tragically shown.
