When Stars Collide...

The stars that shoot across the sky,
propelled by their own power,
burn more quickly, flare and die,
but live freely and do not cower.

While other stagnant stars reside,
content to slowly fade away,
shooting stars seen miles wide,
fight becoming yesterday.

The cautious stars keep their thoughts small,
doing as they had done before,
as the striving stars risk it all
for the chance at something more.

The shooting path is a lonely path,
against the majority,
the stationary stars at the impractical laugh,
to hide their mediocrity.

But should two stars collide in space
oh what a sight to behold,
their powers united, they interlace
in a flash of brilliant gold.

And what becomes of the stagnant star,
who in fear stays where he fell?
He watches his brother from afar,
forgotten, he will dwell.
