Do I like Transformers? Well, I guess I have a great deal of them, so you be the judge. I try to stick with collecting 4 different characters: Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Rodimus, and Megatron. However, there are various different versions and similar characters. For example, Megatron has another form called Galvatron. And in Japan, where transformers originate, Optimus Prime is know as Convoy. So, you get the idea.
I've listed my Transformers in several groups. The first 4 are the main characters I collect. They are then broken into their main specific groups, basically the good guys and the bad guys. The mini-cons are listed separately. They are listed by which specific name they have, then the series they are from.
"KO" stands for "Knock Off." These are toys not officially licensed by Hasbro or Takara, but are clearly based on a Transformer. They are what the sound like, knock off's. I've listed them by what they are first and then the Transformer in which they are based. They are denoted by "KO."

Mini-cons were introduced in Transformers: Armada as a group of transformers neither Autobot nor Decepticon that could link up with a full-size transformer, granting the larger transformer more power. Some were partnered with specific transformers, noted by the (parenthesis). Others could combine with each other, usually in threes, creating weapons or even larger transformers themselves. Still others came in groups. All could attach to other Armada transformers and some Energon and Cybertron transformers.

Oh, and if you are curious about what I meant earlier about other versions, names, etc. of those four main characters, here is yet another list of the different forms, versions, names and the like of those four characters, as well as what they transform into and such.
As of my last official count, in America alone, there are more than 30 Optimus Primes released and 10 Optimus Primals. Counting all the Japanese versions and other versions of Prime/Primal/Convoy, there are well over 60 transformable versions and counting. With the 2007 release of the movie, Transformers has had a real surge in popularity. With a new cartoon and comics, theres plenty more than meets the eyes.
There are both American and Japanese versions of Optimus Prime/Convoy. For the most part, there are corresponding American and Japanese versions of the same one, but there are several Japanese versions of Convoy that are exclusive to Japan with no American counterpart.

Though the history and continuity is muddled at best, here is what I have gleamed about Optimus Prime and his history. He was originally named Orion Pax, then was later turned into Optronix. In this position, he then was changed by the matrix of leadership into the famous Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots.
I would not have been able to compile this long, (kinda useless) list if not for the help of www.tfu.info Some of my transformers are from back in the day, so I don't exactly remember the specifics of when I got them. TFU Online has a feature that allows you to identify your transformers from just looking at it. This site is one of the most comprehensive of any I have seen!
