IN LOVING MEMORY of MOM......my Best Friend

Helen R. Augustine

October 23, 1921---February 19, 1988

I am dedicating this page to Mother. She was also my best friend.

Mother had a great talent for writing. I wanted to share one of her precious poems with all of you to enjoy. She had a great way of putting into words, her feelings, thoughts, and enjoyments of life. This I want to share with you, my friends.

This is a poem that she wrote about friends. She treasured each and every one of her friends.

MY DEAR FRIEND

I shall not send to you this day
A basket of fresh flowers so fine;
For flowers will not express my thoughts
To such dear friend of mine.

I shall send to you a special basket
Of joy gathered throughout my day;
And if you carefully unpack them,
Joy shall also come your way.

For the handle I chose the rainbow
For the lining, the sky of blue;
Inside I placed from morning grass
Drops of sparkling dew.

I packed seven days of sunshine
And four gentle winds that blow,
The sound of each tiny leaf
Fluttering to and frow.

I have gathered sweet song of birds
Ever singing as they pass;
For good luck, four leaf clovers
From nearby patches of grass.

Rainbows, blueskys, and songbirds
All go so sweetly together;
And as you unpack them, my sick friend
May these tokens make you better.
