Chapter 6 - Well whatdya know?

Jenn shivered in anticipation. Hanson......wow. She walked over to the sink in the corner of the room and rinsed off her arms, sticky with grape Snapple.

Alex got up and walked over to her, handing her a bar of soap that she had found in the cabinets over the counter.

“Thanks,” Jenn said distractedly. She had a dreamy look on her face.

“Ugh, Jenn!” Alex poked her hard in the ribs.

“Ow!” Jenn yelped, emerging from her trance. “What the hell was that for?”

“You should've seen the expression on your face, talk about starstruck!” Alex folded her arms across her chest.

“Well sooooooorry! What’s wrong with that? You can’t tell me that you’re not a wee bit excited at our extreme good luck.....” Jenn turned off the faucet and dried her arms with a paper towel. “Ugh....my stomach is still sticky....I wish I didn’t have to where this big white T-shirt that Mrs. Hanson gave me.”

“I know...what will Hanson think when they see you in it?” Alex laughed.

“It’s not funny! I look disgusting!” Jenn pouted.

“Well it was their fault....” Alex pointed out.

“You’re right.....I guess I don’t mind that much.” Jenn shrugged.

Just then the door burst open and in came none other than Ike, Tay, and Zac. Zac waltzed over to the two girls and bowed formally. Jenn and Alex giggled.

“I come bearing apologies for my clumsy brothers.....I can assure you I am NOTHING like either of them,” Zac bowed again and shot his brothers a nasty look.

Jenn laughed. “It’s okay Zac!”

“Hey!” Ike said, “you’re wearing my shirt!”

“I am?” Jenn looked down at the over-sized white T-shirt that she had on. She secretly hoped that he’d let her keep it .......hmmmm....a nightshirt maybe.

“Yeah, but you can have it.....I only wore it once, when we were helping a friend paint his garage.”

Yes! Isaac sweat! Jenn made a mental note to NEVER wash that shirt.

"Sorry about that," Taylor began, "but we were wondering....maybe you'd like to go to tomorrow's concert...we have some extra backstage passes that we were going to give to the Red Jellybeans and Green Jello presidents, but oh well, they'll live."

Alex searched his facial expression for any clues that he was kidding. Jenn couldn't believe it either. My breathe was caught in my throat. "B--backstage passes....?" She sputtered.

"And front row seats, you can sit by our family in the VIP section," Ike concluded.

"Wow.....thanks you guys," Jenn said in astonishment. "But um.....no offense or anything, but do you think I could go buy a new shirt or something and change into that?"

"Yeah sure!" Ike agreed quickly. "I wouldn't want to stay in a shirt that smells like paint and me for too long anyway!" Then he realized what he had said and tried to re-phrase it. "Wait...that came out wrong. What I meant was --"

"Okay Ike we get the point!" Zac rolled his eyes and leaned against the wall.

Alex caught Taylor's eye and smiled. He quickly blushed and looked down. He's so shy! She thought.

"Thanks Isaac--" Jenn said.

"Call me Ike," he interrupted.

"Okay, thanks Ike.....we'd really like to spend some more time with you, you guys seem really nice," she smiled warmly.

"That's because we are," Zac said matter-of-factly.

"Well," Alex spoke up, "can we meet you back here in about..." she glanced at her watch, "20 minutes? Then we can maybe...uh....do something?" Her eyes looked hopeful.

"Yeah sure, that would be great," Taylor said, looking directly at Alexandra.

"Cool...but uh, can we have like a pass or something so that the security guards don’t kill us when we try to get backstage again?”

“Oh yeah...okay, here...” Taylor went to a locked drawer under the sinks and dialed the combination. The drawer popped open and he handed each of the girls a pass.

“Thanks.”

“No problem, but we’d better get going and sign some more autographs. There’s a back door at the end of the hallway,” Ike said.

“Okay, bye, thanks again.”

“Yeah bye,” All three Hanson brothers waved and headed back through the curtain and barricades to the autograph table for another grueling half hour of autographs.

Alexandra and Jenn received many puzzled looks as they walked through the hallway to the backdoor. When they exited, they found themselves right outside the GAP.

“Perfect!” Jenn declared. The two walked into the store to find a replacement shirt.

Finally settling on a cute black tanktop, Jenn bought it and then went to a bathroom to change into it. She stuck Ike’s shirt into her shopping bag and hoped that he wouldn’t ask for it back.

They walked back to the overly-crowded Hanson area, receiving many glares from jealous fans as they slowly made their way to the curtain guarded by two bodyguards. They presented their backstage passes and were allowed to pass.

When they reached the door of the room they had been in before, they found it locked.

“Damn,” Jenn muttered.

“Yeah...” Alex sighed, “now where do we go?”

Jenn turned around when she felt a light tugging at the bottom of her shirt. A familiar little boy with an adorable blonde mushroom cut looked up at her with big eyes. Jenn knelt down. “Hi.....what’s your name?” She cooed. She really loved little kids.

“Mackie,” the little boy smiled shyly. “I thought you were looking for something.”

“Yeah we were,” Alex told him, “do you know where your mommy is?”

“Uh-huh.” The boy ran off and came back moments later with his mom, the Dutch bun lady.

“Hello again, I see that Mackie found you two,” she smiled.

“Um yes, Mrs. Hanson--” Alex said.

“Diana,” Mrs. Hanson told her.

“Well, Diana, you see, the door is locked and---”

“Oh! That room is being used now for a small conference. If you would like, you can stay in the dressing room until the boys are done.”

“Sure...that would be great,” said Jenn.

Diana led them to a room labled HANSON. She unlocked the door and opened it. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to offend you, but please don’t take anything. You girls are probably not those type of people, but you never know what fans will do....”

“It’s okay, we understand, we promise we won’t take anything,” Alex assured her.

“All right, I’ll leave you then.” Diana smiled and left with Mac clutching her hand.

Jenn plopped down on the leather couch next to Alex. They were silent for a few minutes, careful not to touch anything. Soon the door opened and the brothers came in.

“Hey....you’re back!” Zac said, taking a swig from a Dr. Pepper.

Taylor shifted his weight nervously. "Um.....Ike and I were wondering....do you guys want to go to the movies or something?"

"Yeah sure!" Jenn replied a little too eagerly. She tried to calm herself down and appear casual. "I mean....okay I guess."

Ike smiled at her uneasiness. It was cute. "Well, c'mon, we'll have to hurry if we want to make Cruel Intentions."

"I want to come!" Zac bounced up from his chair.

Taylor glared at him. "You're too young," he said through his teeth. He hoped that Zac would see the hidden meaning.

"Oh......" Zac finally caught on and grinned. He knew that he would be welcome any other time, but this was the exception.

Girls....ugh....he thought, because of them I can't go...but he liked girls very much all the same, but not when they caused him to be unable to go to a movie with this brothers. Especially a movie with Sarah Michelle Gellar.....Zac felt his face grow warm.

"Well let's go!" Jenn announced, and stood up.

"Wait, there are way too many fans out there...they'd kill us," Ike said. He and Taylor left the room.

Soon they emerged in the doorway with their trademark blonde hair hidden under baseball caps and dark sunglasses over their eyes. They had also changed their shirts.

"Wow.....hardly recognizable," Jenn said.

"Yup," Taylor said, "but it's really too bad that we have to hide our completely masculine features..." He rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

"Oh you're too modest Taylor!" Alex shoved him playfully.

Zac rolled his eyes and put his headphones on. He put the volume up on his Discman as loud as it would go.

The two couples walked out the back door. Fans were all around, whimpering because Hanson had left. Security guards were still trying to convince some persistent fans that Hanson had already left for their hotel.

Nobody noticed two baseball-capped guys with dark sunglasses head towards the movie theatre, each with a girl by his side.
