A few important facts about DIVX:

1) Not all DVD players have the DIVX feature. Only DVD players that have DIVX feature can run DIVX enhanced DVD movies. DIVX equipped DVD players will ofcourse run standard DVDs as well.

2) In order to play DIVX movies at all, an account must first be setup with the DIVX billing agency. Also, the DIVX enhanced player must be allowed to communicate regularly with the billing agencey. It is recommended that customer maintain the machine's phone line connection. This way the machine will not miss a communication session with the billing agency. If the monthly communication session is missed the machine will provide a on screen warning. The machine will then repeatedly try for another session. If the repeated attempts fail the player will shutdown. If this occurs, DIVX movies cannot be played on the machine (however, it will still play standard DVDs as well as audio CDs). The player will then only run DIVX movies after recieving a signal from the billing agency. A reactivation fee applies.

3) Currently, the DIVX feature will not work out side of the United States or Canada. Eventually, the DIVX feature will be enabled for other countries.

4) Certain DIVX movies cannot be immediately connverted to "Silver" status. The reason for this is that the studios responsible for these films want to maintain their rental generated profits. A few weeks after the film is released on DIVX the conversion to "Silver" status will be allowed.
