Are There Any Other Options?

After all this evidence presented, it is obvious that the use of fertility drugs should be limited. It would be better for the child, parents, and even marriage if there were some regulation. To date, there have been no moves to put restrictions on these drugs, and it is time to start. For example, it should be mandatory that a woman has the ultrasound that counts the eggs before insemination. If there are over three, it should be prohibited to inseminate. A close monitoring of the situation could solve the problem. Also, women should try other options instead of fertility drugs. Anna's recommends we should "put the interests of the children first. Physicians have to take every reasonable step to prevent bad outcomes of their own making." (104) Although these births are incredible, to call them a miracle is a stretch. A miracle is an innately good thing. This may not be. As the children grow older and become people instead of just sextuplets, we can watch their life bloom before our eyes. Or if their lives are less than perfect, we can turn the page, or switch the channel. But what are they going to do? They do not have that option. Before we praise the technology for coming up with this great idea, we should figure out what the results will be. There are other options out there, less risky and that do not play with a real breathing person. Annas said it perfect when he said, "We should give these kids a real shot at a healthy life." (104) Maybe the only way to do ensure that that is so, is to never let them be born.
