Some stuff first:

-

HIJO DEL SANTO UNMASKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right! Super Luchas had a pic of Hijo del Santo without his mask!!! Well, he was not really Hijo del Santo yet, but Mr Rudy Guzman young kid, who was with his dad when the now Hijo was about 4 or 5 years old.

-There was no IRWG show last week, or at least it was not on Thursday night, I went to the guy who tapes the show to give him the tape, and stayed there for a while, it usually starts at 22:00 (local), but by the time I went home, 00:50 of the next day, no show had started, in fact, a soccer game was about to start. I don't know what happened there, I forgot to email them to ask them last Saturday.

-Something I forgot from last week's recap: Before the main event, they ran yet another angle with Referee 'Guero' Rangel and Scorpio jr, in this one, Scorpio jr and Zumbido went to the gypsy woman again, and she gave them 2 huge scorpions (although I've been told that the bigger the scorpion, the less poisonous it is, it looked cool), they take them away and then have a glass with some liquid, it was supposed that the liquid was the scorpion's poison, so they got it into a syringe and went on to inject Rangel!!!!!

This is weird, because many of the fans don't know it is all fake, so Scorpio might get attacked (legit) if something happens to Rangel...

- Super Luchas Magazine had Espanto jr on its cover, and they revealed for the Mexican crowds that he was Pentagon/Santo Negro!!! Since they're not covering AAA any more (because AAA banned them), I wonder if they're getting into a media war... btw, I don't buy Box y Lucha any more because most of the guys who worked there are now in Super Luchas, as the other mag is focusing more in Boxing over lucha.

- To made it up for the lack of AAA coverage, Super Luchas has extended its work on IWRG!! Many of their mid to low carders are featuered in the recent issues.

- Black Warrior faced Olimpico for Warrior's NWA light heavyweight title in Acapulco, last Wed/21, Warrior/Panther/Wagner fought Atlantis, Mascara Sagrada (original?) and Mr Niebla (original?) at Gimnasio G3 (April/22). I'm not sure but it seems that it was a title match also. I don't think the titles changed hands.

- Rayo de Jalisco jr returned to the ring last Friday. He was using a neckbrace (sp?meaning?) and could barely move, so I guess he's 95% recovered. He was interviewed by Dr Morales, and said that he was about to return in 2 or 3 months. Now, I hope this is an angle, and that in a month or so, Universo 2000 or someone will attack him 're-injuing' him for the rest of the year. What about this: he needs another operation, Dr Wagner jr dresses as a doctor and goes and screws his column for life!!!!!

- Anyway, the biggest news from the last week was Felino jumping on to AAA, he was on PAPSA's April 18th show, working for the main event (I think), this should be aired in Mexico this coming Sunday... arghhh!!!! I won't be on the country!!!!! Felino might very well be the best worker for AAA right now (at least, of the ones the use, remember Jerry Estrada?) and I have the feeling that he and Heavy Metal will join forces as a 'no friends to anyone' tag team, and maybe they could end up feuding each other. Felino owns his character (I think), and it was Antonio Peņa who created the character.

EMLL- From Arena Coliseo. First match, taped April 20, following 3 matches taped April 23. Annoucers: Leo Magadan, Javier Llaņes and Dr Alfonso Morales.

*** Blue Panther, Apolo Dantes and Cien Caras vs Ringo Mendoza, Brazo de Plata and Salomon Grundy. Why is Salomon Grundy still on the main events? I know the crowd was impressed with him at first, some 9 years ago, but after Silva/Head Hunters, what does Salomon has to offer?

1.- As usual, the rudos ambush the tecnicos, Panther starts beating the crap out of Mendoza, while Dantes and Caras have little trouble manhandling Brazo de Plata, Blue Panther gets Ringo's head into the permanet chairs and start kicking it!!! Well, it was really Ringo's leg... Ringo juices, amazingly, Apolo and Cien had no trouble beating the fat guys, since they can't get nothing on Silva, I was thinking they would do the same here, the three rudos slam Grundy into Plata, to get the easy pin.

2.- The rudos kept on control, Caras had Grundy into a 15 minute choke hold, while Apolo tried to make Super Porky's mouth bigger (so he could eat even more?) and Panther did the usual bloody stuff with Ringo, Porky reacted and the tecnicos made the comback, Ringo ripped Blue Panther's mask... Apolo and Cien Caras work with the fat guys so that they could do their fat comedy, then comes Ringo vs Panther again, this time Ringo DOES rip the mask (he had failed the previous time), but Cien Caras enters to kick him off the ring, but Cien Caras is gutshoted out of the ring himself by Plata, so that Grundy can hit him with the vertical splash (?), Apolo goes for the sunset flip on Brazo de Plata, but Porky blocks and does the sitdown splash, missing it!!! Apolo drookicks Plata out to the floor, then hits an over the top side plancha, so Ringo and Panther are left on the ring, I smell unseen 'Fuerza punt' here... armdrag by Mendoza, dropkicks, dropkicks again, a 1 count, Ringo to the ropes, right time for the Fuerza punt, what?? No low kick?? Half powerbomb!! Nudo Lagunero! Clean win!!! 2-0!!!! Panther ask for a title shot, Ringo said he wanted a hair vs mask, at the end they set the title bout.

Will Ringo lose his hair? Panther unmasked? It seems that the hair vs mask match will be done, since they didn't do a 'mano a mano' before the title match. I don't know, I guess Blue Panther would be more interested in the title than in Ringo's hair, but they always let the guys keep the belt for at least a couple of defences.

*** Lighting Match: Mr Aguila vs Valentin Mayo.- I guess the booked this on the last minute, the card had Mascara Magica, Tony Rivera and Olimpico joining Mr Aguila to take Mayo and Violencia, Rey Bucanero and Karloff Lagarde. Maybe half a dozen of guys no showed????

-- Valentin starts dominating with his rudo offense but Mr Aguila keeps escaping from the moves, for instance, he does a Juvi-like flip to his feet after a released german suplex. Soon, Mayo ends out of the ring, so Aguila can deliver his over the top half tornillo plancha. They made it back to the ring and Mayo gets the upper hand temporarily by delivering missile kicks and a reverse tope to get 2 close falls. He does a fireman carry slam on Aguila and goes to the ttb, but is armdragged from it. Bodyslam on Mayo, then a 450š splash from Aguila to get the match!! Rob, don't read this: Actually, he landed on his feet first, but I guess that's his rendition of the move, I guess it could be called the 360š to the mat + 90š to the guy. :)

The problem with Mr Aguila is that EMLL books him as tecnico because of his highflying style, yet, he seems to have the personality of a rudo, however, he also needs to work as tecnico since he has to be carried on most of his matches, the best guys doing so were Ultimo Guerrero and Black Warrior in 1998. But after that, EMLL has not done anything interesting with him.

*** Black Warrior, Gran Markus jr and Satanico vs Brazo de Oro and the Head Hunters.- Before the match starts, Medico Morales interviews the 'Hunters and Rayo de Jalisco returned to the ring. (See above)

1.- As soon as Rayo leaves, Warrior and Co. attack, they beat one of the Head Hunters, and he got injured there and couldn't continue on the match. So the rudos can work beatin Brazo de Oro, then the other Hunter, Brazo made the comeback and they managed to use some fat corner splashes to hint the win... they show how the Head Hunter is carried out, missing to show how (if) the other HH splashed Brazo de Oro, so the rudos could take over again. Satanico and Markus do an assisted back body drop on HH, then Black Warrior hits missile dropkicks. Pins swiftly followed.

2.- The other Head Hunter never returned, so the rudos could double or triple team on the tecnicos. The HH managed to react by grabing the top rope to avoid an assited back body drop from Warrior and Satanico, then connected both with double lariats. The tecnicos start brawling, after a couple of minutes, Warrior and Markus whipped Hunter to the ropes, and went to the floor trying to make him trip, but he got them both with fat plancha! He kept over them, I guess he wanted them to quit or something, meanwhile, Satanico sent a low kick to Brazo de Oro, who blocked, but then Satanico went to the floor faking a foul!!! The referees bought it!! Rudos win 2-0!!!

ROFTL!!! CMLL's 4 fat guys (good fat guys) couldn't even score a fall!!! I hope this is a sign of things to come, CMLL:forget about having no-selling tecnicos, (dump Dinamitas and Markus also).

*** Dr Wagner jr, Ultimo Guerrero and Scorpio jr vs Negro 440, Mr Niebla and Tinieblas jr.- They ran an angle before the match: Tinieblas, Rangel (referee) and Mr Niebla visit Rayo at his rehab, Rayo gives Rangel a talisman to help him, a lady comes and tells Rangel that his x-rays plaks (sp?or meaning?) are ready, so she leads him to a doctors office, the doctor is looking to the light board and said that the results were ready, and places the xrays on the board, Zumbido's and Scorpio's faces pop up from the board!! The doctor turns around... it's DOCTOR WAGNER JR!!! Rangel looks as if he's made his mind about buying that adult-diapers... OK, the angle was not very well done and I tried to make it sound better than it was.

1.- Rudos sneak attack, brawling, Ultimo Guerrero places Mr Niebla on the top turnbuckle, to deliver the reverse corner suplex (or merenguero suplex as called at Hurricanrana!), the rudos start doing team attacks, including Vato Loco style, three way dropkicks on Tinieblas jr!! Casas enters the ring, but gets slapped by Wagner and Scorpio, Wagner puts him on the ttb and hits his WagnerDog (3/4 facelock bulldog), next, Ultimo Guerrero comes with a diving headbutt, Wagner puts Negro into a crab and the fall goes to the rudos.

2.- Things don't get any better for the tecnicos, Wagner lifts Negro into a fireman carry (or something close, for a moment, I was expecting the DVD!!), but the three rudos throw Negro out of the ring!!! Negro managed to grab the ropes first, so it wasn't that much different to a 'salida de bandera', which is the way they call when a rudo goes out of the ring back body droped-like. Later, Negro 'where's my brother?' Casas ducks a double clothesline from Wagner and Scorpio, and then hits dropkicks on Ultimo Guerrero, suddenly, Tinieblas and Mr Niebla are revitalized, as the tecnicos control the brawl for now, the end comes with Mr Niebla hitting his roll into a reverse tope on Guerrero, and pinning him, Tinieblas hits his ttb diving plancha (does he knows anything else besides that?) on Wagner jr to prevent any save... then puts him into 'la cavernaria'. Negro chases and then beats Scorpio for a while.

3.- Wagner and Niebla trade spots of going to the second turnbuckles to get cheered, of course, this was a trick from Wagner, as soon as he can, he kicks Mr Niebla, but the tecnico then reacts with 'una catapulta', Ultimo Guerrero takest the task of working with Tinieblitas, he does an ok job, but ends out of the ring, no one did the tope, since Scorpio and Negro Casas got into the ring... Scorpio no sell two shoulder blocks, then took Negro down with a lariat. Wagner faces Mr Niebla again, the tecnico gets some close falls, and then hits another reverse tope which sent Wagner jr to the floor, Mr Niebla delivers a near corner post over the ttb diving tope on Dr Wagner!! Ultimo Guerrero charges, but ends up on a 'el cristo' hold from Tinieblitas, Guerrero apparently submits, meanwhile, Scorpio jr does an inside cradle to pin Negro, who claimed it was a foul, Rangel gave the DQ, but it is hard to tell if it was really a foul or part of the 'Rangel will always make Scorpio jr to lose' angle.

The angle of Rangel-Scorpio is marginally good. Still, it feels as if they should had done this BEFORE the mask/hair match. This time it looks as if they did the climax and then builded the stuff.

AAA from Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl (2 matches) and Tlanepantla.(2 matches), annoucers: Zuņiga, Maroņas on both locations, Rivera only in Neza.

*** Vatos Locos vs Vipers streetfight.- Non title, match, no stipulation match. The Vipers were in the ring with some baseball bats (wrapped on barbwire?), but they actually dropped away them and were not used on the match!!! Oooophs, sorry to give away that...

-- Every Vato gets a Viper out of the ring as they start brawling, soon, Nygma is using a steel chair on Mosco. Later, Manson rips Maniaco's shirt off, and then slams him to a chair on the turnbuckles! More chair shots, flinging over the barrior thru the crowd, etc. Vatos take all of the Vipers back to the ring and keep beating them, Vatos tried quadruple back body drops, but the Vipers countered by fliping to fall on their feet, but were sent out fo the ring by the Vatos Locos who delivered quadruple topes suicidas (alsmost), but the Vipers had landed on some chairs, which they used to block the topes!! The Vatos are the ones delivering the beat down now, they chair shot the vatos for a while, and then take them to the locker room entrance, the place is similar to a bull ring, so there are wood barriers, where the Vatos were slammed for some time, Manson lost his shirt there at hands of Maniaco, who then handcuffed him and chained his feet!! The Vipers got a rope with a hook so they hanged and lifted Charly Manson!! Picudo arrives with a torch and starts spitting fire (a la Gene) but he can scare the Vipers off, Mosco drop kicks him and grabs the torch to strike at Nygma, with Manson hanged, they take Picudo, May Flowers and Nygma back the ring, so they can frankensteiner them and then hit planchas and senton to get the pins and the match. Cibernetico comes to celebrate and then Sangre Chicana also gets there as the brawling continues.

*** Perro Aguayo, Mascara Sagrada and Alebrije vs Sangre Chicana, Cibernetico and Cobarde jr.- Once again, a Perro retirement match.

1.- The rudos attack Perro when he was on his way to the ring, in about 2 minutes, they made him and Mascara Sagrada (AAA) submit to half crabs. 2.- The rudos kept killing Perro with chair shots and slaming him to the corner post, with (NOT) Mascara Sagrada and Alebrije not being able to do anything, at the end, Cobarde low kicks Alebrije so Tropicasas DQd the rudos (I think the kick was not really an illegal move, but I guess it was meant to be). The bloody Perro is so beaten that has to leave for the locker rooms stretched out. 3.- With Perro out of the picture, the rudos have easy time beating Alebrije and Mascara (AAA), but soon, Ciber and Chicana make it clear they're not friends, so Ciber seems to be going away, but Perro gets him, the crowd happily handles Perro a chair, I guess they knew he needed to sit down to recover his breath after the couple of punches he throwed... Perro ends up doing la casita on Cobarde jr and taking the match.

Post: Texano gets to the announcers table, and mouth trashed Perro. Then went to throw him Coke or something, as they started fighting.

*** Kick Boxer and Box Thai vs Parka Jr and Mascara Sagrada jr.- The Kick Boxers saga continued, I didn't care for that at first, but now that it is producing matches, I think it is OK, at least it has made Mascara Jr look better than his 'feud' with Hijo del Solitario. Both tecnicos have improved quite a bit.

1.- They start with typical kickboxers stuff, just brawling with punches, kicks and takedowns, the boxers are using gloves. Tecnicos start to dominate with some usual tecnico stuff, the 'boxers react with some blows. They go back and forth, with the tecnicos being ahead most of the time but the rudos reacting when the tecnicos missed sentons or planchas. Parka jr uses a press on Box Thai, and then drops him, catches him and suplexes him back with a bridge+pin! Mascara hits a plancha from the ttb to prevent the save, somehow, it looks as if the referee (el Fresero) made the 3 count, but no decition was rendered, Kick Boxer reacted with some kicks to Mascara jr, but the tecnico managed to put him inot a half crab, then, Abismo Negro (II) and Pentagon came to the ring!! They attacked the tecnicos, Abismo used the blow torch and then tombstoned Fresero!!! The tecnicos were beaten some more and where thrown out of the ring, Fresero was stretched out, the other referee, which was Kick Boxing guy, counted the tecnicos out and the rudos won the match.

Was this the real Abismo Negro??? Who knows, but the finish was good, at last, AAA has decided to do something with Pentagon, who, since turning rudo last Sepetember, had not done anything at all. Hope they wreak more havoc in the coming weeks.

*** Vatos Locos vs Payasos.- Non title match, no stipulations match. BTW, is it true that one of the original Payasos (don't know wich was Cobarde jr?)

1.- The Vatos Locos start ganging up on single Payasos, the rip Coco Rojo's mask open, and then delivering the Vatos Locos' four way dropkicks, Coco Rojo means 'red head', and it starts to turn red with some blood. The brawling continues on the ring side until the Vatos Locos start dancing 'un jarabe tapatio' over Coco Rojo and the dreaded 'exceso de rudezas' rule is applied, Payasos are awarded the first fall.

2.- Some more brawl, then things cool down a little, Coco Amarillo works some comdy on MayFlowers, the annoucers said that MayFlowers is 'living inside the closet', weird stuff, since that thing has no real meaning in Mexico... next, Manson gets to do his Charly dance when working on Coco Azul, btw, they're their teams captains. Both teams trade some moves, with the end coming with Payaso Coco Negro putting Manson and an abdominal stretch, May Flowers goes for the save but Coco Amarillo connects a moonsault on him, getting the pin, Picudo is thrown out of the ring by Coco Rojo, who nails Picudo with a vertical plancha, then comes Coco Azul with an airplane spin on Nygma. Payasos take the match 2-0.

Los Vatos Locos are a team which won't win any match, unless it's on a big show or a title match. Overall, I enjoyed both shows, nothing special about anything, but at least, in 80% of the time, the tecnicos got bashed pretty badly!!!!
