Troop 77 is sponsored by the St. Paul's United Church of Christ's Mens Brotherhood. We meet every Monday evening at 6:30 pm at the Parish House in Pekin, Illinois. Anyone interested in Scouting is invited to stop in and see us at a special meeting we are planning for November 2, 1998.
Boundary Waters Canoe Area 1996
In 1996 we joined Troop 21 from Brice Prairie, Wisconsin and went to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) in northern Minnesota and earned the 50 miles
afoot or afloat award. After 54 miles and rain 7 out of the 8 days in the back country, the troop decided it was the best trip they had ever been on!
The troop sighted moose, loons and deer and managed to get one day of fishing in. The fish were not big but at least everyone had a "taste" of the fishing.
Shenandoah Valley 1997
In 1997 Troop 77 spent 8 days exploring Gettysburg National Battlefield and Shenandoah National Park. At Gettysburg we were able to camp on the battlefield and had the best seats in town to watch the July 4th fireworks.
At Shenandoah National Park the troop backpacked the backcountry exploring abandoned farmsteads and communities. Other than one of the boys falling in the creek and a possible bear sighting, the excitement was kept at a reasonable level! Also, let it be know that contrary to common belief, the Assistant Scoutmaster was able to last the entire tour of the Lauray Caverns!
Local High Adventure
Locally, we spend our time hiking the Sandridge State Forest in Illinois.
