Vampires are ordinary human beings, who find a need or a desire for the taste of blood. It is said to be that a normal feeding for the average vampire is half a cup. Some take less, some even more.
There are vampires out there who think that they can tell other vampires apart, some find so much life and energy in the blood of the donor that they feel they know what is going on inside their minds. What they are thinking and feeling. And they also can feel being drawn closer to that person.
Why does a vampire choose to drink blood? For many different reasons. Some feel they were born to be blood drinkers, other say it tastes good, and some even feel they need it to survive. Each individual vampire has his/her own reason for choosing the path that they have taken.
The blood intake may be for two different reasons. Intimacy and power. Many people seek pleasure when doing so, otherwise why would they if they didn't get enjoyment out of it right?
Although the blood itself down not make the vampire young, there is some element that doctors are trying to find out that is in the bloodstream that slows down the aging process. And that may be one idea that came from Hollywood and films due to the 'immortality' that comes from the vampires stereotyped.
One interesting theory given by professor David Dolphin is that the tales about the vampires may be linked to a disease called porphria. The appearance of the fangs may be from receding gums, the people with porphria may be sensitive to some levels of light. Before anyone knew what the disease was back then the porphria patients may have drank blood for their only treatment to supplement the enzyme heme (from hemoglobin) that their blood was lacking.
How do the vampires bite their victims? Most use their teeth, naturally biting down on the skin to puncture it and let the blood flow. Some have capped fangs that they may have bought, some use razors and some even wait until the donor accidentally cut him/her self. What ever they use most do not like to hurt the donors, and most do not take unwilling donors. Where might they bite? A lot of different places on the body. The arms are very popular, and even the old age neck, but biting on the neck can be very dangerous due to the fact that they might hit the artery vein accidentally.
The bites are not huge holes, but rather small marks on the place bitten that look like two half moon shapes that are close together. The blood is taken out from the holes and then soon after it is closed after the person has fed. Usually the suction on the skin draws it shut. Later on the next day, or possibly the same evening the marks look to be tiny rashes or even a small bug like bite.
There are said to be three ways to see if the bite on a persons flesh is a vampire bite. No one knows if these accusations are true, they are just a theory: a) By pinching the skin using the upper and lower fangs on the one side of the mouth b) Shoving in both of the upper teeth c) Shoving in both of the lower teeth. The last two theories are virtually impossible to the human mouth. Most vampire bites should be horizontal, not necessarily vertical.
Because Vampires are 'shunned' in today's society, not a lot of people go out and advertise that they are true vampires. It isn't easy being a vampire, but most vampires are likely to say that they have no intention to stop drinking blood.
