Conception and Design
Despite popular belief Gustave Eiffel did not come up with the idea to build a tower. The two chief engineers in Eiffel's company Emile Nouguier and Maurice Koechilin came up with the idea for a big tower in June of 1884. Nouguier and Koechilin turned to Stephen Sauvestre to make Gustave's design of the tower have a nicer appearance.

The design of the Eiffel Tower was to be like a big pillar of light with four lace worked pillars, separated at the base and then joining together at the top.
