WANTING TO CHANGE THEIR MAJOR TO
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SCIENCES



Once you have begun classes at Illinois State University, and you want to become a Criminal Justice major you are considered an INTERNAL TRANSFER.

Students who have been on Academic Probation get the instant msg.
To get an instant msg. regarding your admission elligibility

Admission into the Criminal Justice major from another major or from the general student category will occur ONLY TWICE A YEAR.

1) At the end of September and
2) At the end of February.

WHAT TO DO FIRST???

Place your name on the waiting list in Schroeder 402.
TO PLACE YOUR NAME ON THE WAITING LIST YOU MUST BE IN ACADEMIC GOOD STANDING! That means you MUST have a 2.0 GPA AT THE TIME YOU PLACE YOUR NAME ON THE LIST!

This can be done any time during the semester; however, decisions will be made only twice a year. If you are not admitted, you will be required to PUT YOUR NAME BACK ON THE WAITING LIST.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION:

1. You must have an ISU gpa of at least 2.0. (all incomplete grades MUST be cleared)
2. You must have completed the following courses:
a. ENG 101, ENG 145, SOC 106, PSY 111, CJS 101
b. Your grades for these five classes must be at least
3 C's and 2 B's--NO D's or F's will be accepted.

3. Students who have been on academic probation more than once must
a. attend a study skills workshop
b. attend a time management workshop
c. make at least one visit to the Student Counseling
service for a meeting with a counselor.
(you must ask the CJS Advisor for a referral)
d. make application in writing to the Department Chairperson. This application must include WHY you want to be a CJS major, WHY you seem to be unable to keep your GPA above a 2.0, and WHAT steps you are taking (besides a, b, and c, above) to improve your academic progress. (a.b.&c. must be documented and included with your application to the cjs major)
(YES, YOU MUST REPEAT THE COURSE IF YOU WANT TO BECOME A CJS MAJOR)

The CJS department will accept repeat courses from another school IF the course you are repeating has never been taken at Illinois State University. IF you took the course at Illinois State University you MUST repeat it at Illinois State University.


Admission will be based upon the criteria listed above; however, the Criminal Justice Department reserves the right to maintain a balanced enrollment.
