Graduation Requirements

ISU Catalogs are ON-LINE 120 semester hours of credit are the required minimum number of hours for a Bachelors Degree from Illinois State University. Some majors may end up with more than 120 hours but no one will be able to graduate with less than the 120 hours.

The following formula can be used to get a ball park figure of what makes up your Bachelors Degree.
The reason I say "ball park" is because there can be overlap with some of the courses making the hours you take work more efficiently for you.
For the purposes of this example I am not overlapping any hours but will indicate, where I can, courses that MAY overlap or in other words; a course that can be used to satisfy two catagories.

1. General Education hours (45 hours)

2. SMT (3 hours)

3. Global Studies (3 hours)
Can be part of General Education or the CJS major elective 369

4. Junior Writing Exam (0 hours)

5. Constitution Exam (0 hours)

6. Major Course work (64 hours)
If chosen carefully 3 hours of General Education can be part of CJS major requirements

7. Minor Course work (18 to 24 hours)

Total Hours if nothing overlaps is: (with minor 133 to 139) (without minor 115 plus 5 hours of elective credit)
