I SHALL PASS THROUGH

THIS WORLD BUT ONCE,

THEREFORE

IF THERE BE ANY KINDNESS

I CAN SHOW

OR ANY GOOD THING

I CAN DO

LET ME DO IT NOW.

LET ME NOT DEFER IT

OR REGRET IT

FOR I SHALL NOT

PASS THIS WAY AGAIN.

When the earth is dying
There shall arise a new tribe
of all colors & creeds.
This tribe shall be called
"The Warriors of the Rainbow"
And it will put it's faith in action,
not in words.

- The Prophecy of -
The Native American Hopi People

"Rivers and roads lead people on."

- Georgia O'Keeffe -

Life is flowing and continuous; it is full of
crossroads, tributaries, and sudden bends.
To live is to travel, and navigable space attracts us.
We want to follow the road or the river
to find what lies around the next bend,
over the next rise.
The mere fact that that they exist seems to tell us
that we should follow them.

No one has ever lived our lives before us.
This moment we are in a space and time
that have never been traveled.
Many past events prepared us for this moment,
and we may often feel as though we were following a track
that has been laid out for us;
but at other times we feel as though
we were strapped to the nose of a rocket,
plunging through space where no one has ever been.

Then, at times (and we wish they were less rare),
we become one with our path,
immersed in our lives unquestioningly.
This is the condition we prefer;
when the river that leads us through life simply flows.

I will endeavor to accept my life;
it is taking me where I need to go.

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads onto way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood,
and I...
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

- Robert Frost -

When you were born
you cried and the world rejoiced.
Live your life in such a manner
that when you die the world cries
and you rejoice.

- Ancient Chinese Saying -

THE FAITH POEM

When you walk to the edge of all the light you have
and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown,
you must believe that one of two things will happen:

There will be something solid for you to stand upon,

or

You will be taught how to fly.

I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS

A free bird leaps on the back of the wind
and floats downstream till the current ends
and dips his wing in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage
can seldom see through his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
of things unknown but longed for still
and his tune is heard on the distant hill
for the caged bird sings of freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the tradewinds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on dawn-bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
of things unknown but longed for still
and his tune is heard on the distant hill
for the caged bird sings of freedom.

INVISIBLE MUSIC

All movement is to invisible music
although few people hear it.
It comes from the sun and the wind
and the movement of water
and a running rabbit and a crowing cock,
and together it is a part of a great symphony.
The longer we listen and the quieter we are,
the more we hear;
and when we do hear, we are part of the music
instead of an unwelcome interruption.

'WE ARE PART OF THE MUSIC'

THOUGHTS TO MY CHILDREN

- By Coleman Wheeler -

Written to my children on the 4th of July, 1989
following the Tiananmen Square Massacre
- in Beijing, China -

______________________

On this Fourth of July the question to ponder
Is the freedom of man to live, not to squander.
Does freedom encompass the limitless stretch
To hurt and to kill, to hate and suppress?

What is best for our children to know and to learn
From China to home - is to love not to burn.
To seek a new world with pride in all peoples
Through love and respect - we're created as equals.

We know in our hearts what is right and correct
To sow peace and not hatred - no matter effect.
Begin with yourself - practice not preach
Begin with your life, reachout and repeat.

For the freedom of man in a world on the brink
of destruction or peace, depends on us each.

The answer lies not in nation or color of skin
tradition, or flag, or our origin.
But treating of others as we would be treated
not stifle the flame, not selfish, conceited.

Though hopes be extinguished by others unknowing
By cause and effect our future is growing.
By joy of loving allow all men their being
To strive for their rights, to flow with their feelings
Of goodwill to all, with kindness unmeasured.
The answer is something for mankind to treasure.

LOVE, DAD

LOVE

THERE ARE THREE KINDS OF LOVE:

The SELFISH LOVE is the Lowest kind.
It only looks toward its own Happiness,
no matter whether the beloved suffers weal or woe.

In MUTUAL LOVE, the lover
not only wants the Happiness of his/her beloved,
but has an eye toward his/her own happiness also.
It is Middling.

The UNSELFISH LOVE is of the Highest Kind.
The lover only minds the Welfare of his/her beloved
& does not care for his/her own sufferings.

- Ramakrishna (1836-1886) -

Faith, Hope, & Love...
But the Greatest of These...
is LOVE.
