Attack and Lose on Sept. 11, 2001

Does History repeat itself?
Does the world not learn?
How many lives will be shed from this earth, to 'win' What do you win?
Is it peace?
I think not, many people died today, September 11, 2001.
Many innocent victums have been lost and killed.
Every person had a sole who died today, every person had someone who cared about them.
Not only has a great deal of our population been lost, but our nation's as well.
I ask that everyone pray for those lost today.
Lord God, We ask that you bless those who have been lost on the hands of others on this tragic day.
We ask that you give there families comfort, and support.
May those who need you know you are there.
May we lift up our hearts and be giving at this time of need.

Another quick note: There is a great deal of blood needed. Please donate your blood..
You can make a difference.

Dr. Jim Hatton's Comments

Hi teens,

The U.S. is a nation in shock this morning, with ripples that will be felt
around the world. Even with the car bombings in 1993 at the World Trade
Center and in 1996 at the Federal Building in Oklahoma City, we aren't used
to being attacked on our soil. We aren't used to feeling vulnerable as a
nation. We're used to going along with our lives beliving that things are
basically OK and safe, and that someone or something can and will protect
us. Having something like this series of attacks happen shakes that
feeling of safety to our very core.

For those of us with OCD, it might be our worst nightmare - with our
obsessions, at least we can say "I know it's not real, but...." With this
kind of thing we can't say that. It might be that both parts of our world
feel threatening, both the irrational world of our OCD and the rational
world that we struggle to spend more time in. We might feel that the rest
of the world is letting us down by not being stable while we're struggling
with our fears. We might be tempted to ask the world "why is this happening?"

I wish there was a good answer to why. But I do know that it's normal to
be afraid after an incident of this type. I know that it's OK to admit
being scared, and to give and recieve comfort as appropriate to others
struggling with this. Some of you will find that your curiosity (need to
know) amkes you pay attention to the news more than is good for you, and
you just get more anxious the more you watch. Try to resist if you can;
the world will tell you what you REALLY need to know in a day or two.

SOME of you will be in a very powerful position, and I want to urge you to
use it to your full advantage. You know fear; you've been afraid before
with your obsessions, you know how paralyzing and defeating it can be.
You've seen and felt what it can do to your if you give into it, and if you
don't give and get support about it.

This time, take your knowledge and use it to be the givers of support. Be
there for others that have not experienced the fears you have. Comfort
others that have not had anxiety be a part of their daily lives. Use your
experience with OCD as a way of understanding what kinds of feelings are
going around the country just now.

In terms of our fears, we will have our lives changed as a result of this.
Security will be tightened, there will be retributions. With the power of
the internet, I doubt it will be very long before the peoples of the world
inform their governments about who is really responsible, and efforts will
be made to make sure they are punished and unable to repeat their acts.
That someone or something that protects us is really US as a community,
banding together for our communal good. Be part of the protection, part of
the effort at safety - it sure beats running with our tails between our legs.

Special messages from the OCD Teen Support Mailing List

I don't believe in the LEAST that our fears and lives will get worse, because of it being outlined by this mornings devistation. Instead of directing feelings of hurt to ourselves, it's time that we spread it to the world around us. I sincerly don't believe this could make our OCD worse AT ALL. I'm sorry, that sounds very self-conceited.
Look at all the people who died today - thousands...and think of the people that had families who died or were hurt....they are struggling more than we are at this point in life. As us people with OCD...we can better ourselves as people and conquers of the disorder if we REACH OUT to the people who lived the nightmare of this morning, instead of focusing ON OURSELVES. I was a little offended about hearing that we will be in extreme fear and that we have nothing stable to hope for around us,....I don't agree at all. If anything...we will become STRONGER people, if we all come together as a WHOLE and help reach out to those who need us most, in any way possible. Even if it is just praying. Our nation is united and I think together, we can make ourselves united by helping others at their time of need, which will in return be helping our own selves.
Like Dr. Hat said...we need to be a part of protection in those of desparate need and comfort and that will play a big part for giving ourselves our in protection which we can also use to help us with whatever we may be struggling with.
Seriously...offer your time, heart, and hands to those who need it most.
God is counting on us, and so are our own brothers and sisters.
God Bless,
