Bloomington Gold Report - We were greeted by beautiful weather and cool evenings (just right for the hot burnouts in front of Signature Inn)! LGCC was well represented, with Brian "Shark-Boy" Johnson and John "The Tiger" Stygar in the 1968-1982 trivia contest. A crowd was on hand to cheer for John and Amy Mullane's success in obtaining their "Survivor" award with their newly acquired 1963 white split window coupe. In his excitement, John accidentally slammed his finger in the door of the '63 and had to be driven back to the hotel by Dennis Hardesty due to a very sore and bloody index finger. Members Ron Bochantin and Casey Shea were also successful in selling their mid-years at the auction and show & sell. After dark, we were treated to a "mid-years rule" flag raising on the hotel roof, many burnouts by Corvettes, Vipers, elderly Chevelles, a Yukon, and even a police cruiser! Bloomington's finest were extremely generous, looked the other way and let us have fun, and it was one of the most enjoyable BG's ever!
Also, many thanks to our hostess at Signature Inn, Mary Ann Popp. She was a pleasure to deal with, a true car enthusiast, took digital pictures of us and our cars which she said will be posted in the hotel lobby for BG 2002, and (most importantly) kept the fresh chocolate chip and sugar cookies coming until the supply was exhausted. As a show of our appreciation for her efforts in making our hotel "THE place to be," the club voted to have a floral arrangement sent to the hotel. Individuals are also encouraged to write thank-you letters: the hotel's address is 101 S. Veterans Parkway, Normal, IL 61761. You can also visit Signature Inn's website at www.signatureinns.com and leave input.
We also had a great turnout for the Route 66 cruise; unfortunately, not many people came out to watch the parade. We led the parade again this year; afterwards, we converged on the Union Bank parking lot to chat, grab some dinner, and then some when to Bobby's for ice cream before heading home for the night.
Don't forget to turn in your membership information form to either John Mullane or mail to the club mailbox (P.O. Box 82, Highland, IL 62249). This info is being gathered for a new club directory; it will not be shared with any other organization.
The following visitors to our August meeting have become members: Lew & Marilyn Bailey of Moro, IL with a 1966 and 1973 roadster; Lynn and Anita Klopenstein of O'Fallon with a 1980 coupe; Ken and Dia Rutter from Dupo, 2001 coupe; Bob and Anna Bordenave from O'Fallon, 1989 convertible; Hal Reddish, with a 1981 coupe; Loren Dial of Breese, IL, with a 1999; and Rick and Elaine Weltzin, who were members some years back, moved away from the area, and have now returned - with the same 1966 coupe! Welcome (and welcome back) to our newest members.
