Elizabeth Alexander and James Morris Isbell's Story

Elizabeth"Betsy" Alexander was born 1825 in Wayne County Ky the second child of Arris Alexander and Mahala Loving. She married James Morris Isbell on June 17, 1841 in Wayne County Ky.
James enlisted on 6 August 1861 and mustered in on 10 August 1861 reporting for duty at Camp Nelson Ky. he joined as a 7th Corporal but was demoted to Pvt on December 24, 1861 no reason stated, however one card does show that he deserted at burville Tn on August 16, 1862 possibly to go home and check on his family which was very common during the war. He returned to his unit between October 1862 and January 1863 as he is listed as present on the January and Febuary 1863 muster rolls. He was detached as a Pickett messenger on 13 April 1863. On 1 January 1864 he reeinlisted in Company "H" 3rd regiment Kentucky Volunteer Infantry at Loudoun Tn. By June of that year he was fighting in the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain in Georgia where he was killed in action.
It is not known when James was born he was the son of Thamas Isbell and Leah(unknown maiden name) Isbell. He had a sister Betty and a brother James both of whom were in Fentress Co. Tn with Nancy Alexander and Aaron Sexton according to the 1850 Census.
Elizabeth "Betsy" Alexander and James Morris Isbell's marriage was performed by L. Parker. Elizabeth died 3 April 1896 in Monticello Wayne County, Ky.

Nancy Ann Isbell born March 13 1842 Wayne Co. Ky, died unknown date. She married first a Thomas Lee about 1860, and second Wiseman Bradford Alexander who would have been her 1st cousin on May 14, 1868 Wiseman Bradford Alexander and Nancy Ann Isbell

Thomas Morris Isbell born 1844 died 1933 married first Mary Morrow, second Frances Melinda Dick in 1896, third Ida Stringer in 1905.
