Arris and Mahala's Story Arris Alexander born June 1794 in Washington County Virginia to William Alexander and Barbara Rollen,the family moved to Wilkes County Noth Carolina prior to 1810. Arris married Mahala Loving born abt 1800 in Burke County North Carolina on Oct 16th 1815. Mahala is believed to be the daughter of Gabriel Loving and Mary "Polly" Sumpter, this is yet to be proven(see Sumpter/Loving link below).This marraiage joins another wonderful Family History to that of the Alexander Family.
Arris and Mahala moved their Family to Wayne County, Kentucky sometime before 1820 where they are listed in the 1820, 1830, 1840 census. They later moved to Fentress County, Tenn. where they are listed on the 1850 census Then by 1860 they had returned to Wayne County Kentucky where once agian they appear in census records. Arris died in Wayne County Kentucky on March 21st 1885 and is buried in the Cooper Baptist Cemetery in Wayne County, Kentucky. It is not known when or where Mahala died only that it was after 1860.
As earlier stated it is believed that Mahala is the daughter of Gabriel Loving and Mary "polly" Sumter, Gabriel Loving is believed to be the son of Gabriel Loving Sr. and Clary Bond. Mary "polly" Sumter was the daughter of John Sumter and Elizabeth Van Pelt. John Sumter was the son of William Thomas Sumpter and Patience Dulce'Iverson and brother to General Thomas Sumter "the Gamecock" of Revolutionary War fame. Arris and Mahala had the following children.

William Pearce born January 11, 1835 in Wayne Co., Ky. died April 17,1914 in Wayne Co.,Ky. Married Polly Gibson on September 9,1854 in Wayne Co., Ky.
