Charles Nicholas King was born anywhere from 1863-1867 at sea, on his way to America.  His father was German and the name was originally Koenig or Von Koenig. His mother was listed as being Flemish from Belgium. He was from Virginia (county unknown), went to America Samoa around 1899, believed to be sent by President McKinley to develop American Samoa. His trade was ironworker, his religion Roman Catholic.  He married Tapuitea Fatutlaie Samia about 1900, daughter of Fatutalie (High Talking Chief) Voice of the Western District for Tuitele. Tapuitea's mother was Elena Mamea of Fagamalo. According to the 1910 census, Charles King was married once before Tapuitea, so he may have left a family behind in Virginia? Charles King worked for the United States Naval Station in Tutuila, American Samoa.  Charles died 1936 and Tapuitea died 1941, they are both buried in the family plot in Fogatogo, American Samoa.
