~*Our Beloved Daughter, Sister, And Friend*~

~*And He Called You Home*~

God Saw you were getting tired,

And a cure was not to be,

So He put His arms around you

And whispered, "Come to Me."

With tearful eyes we watched you,

And saw you pass away.

Although we loved you dearly,

We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,

Hard working hands at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us,

He only takes the best.

~*An Open Letter to the ExxoMobil Friends of Jane Heifner*~

From Her Family

We want to thank all of the ExxonMobil employees who cared enough to make Jane's last days here on this earth more enjoyable.  I won't take the space to list all of you for fear of leaving someone out.  I will tell of a couple of events that brightened her life.

One was the caring of a woman who took time to redo Jane's nails while she was able to appreciate the gesture. This same woman would come and vist even when Jane didn't feel like entertaining anyone.

Another was the beach party.  A couple of ExxonMobil employees took the wonderful step of making one of Jane's final wishes come true.   Jane had expressed the desire to walk on the beach in Galveston one last time.  As happens in these things, Jane's health deteriorated before the walk was accomplished.  The "beach girls" brought decorations, sand and water pistols.  Although Jane was unable to walk on the beach, these women brought to Jane her last fun.  The next day was the beginning of the end.

One other special circumstance was the finding of a beautician who would come to the hospice to repair the color of Jane's hair.  As you know Jane was very proud of her hair and took great pleasure in being able to exit this world as attract ive as possible.

A certain executive of the law department sent a personal not that Jane treasured until the end.  Another sent "the largest flower arrangement he could find".  There are many more touching gestures than I have space here to list so let me just say that all the visitors, prayers and kind thoughts were greatly appreciated.  I can not close without mentioning the group of ladies that wanted to "whip the hospice Doctor's butt" for trying to send Jane out of the hospice because she didn't look sick enough.  She fooled him, she died 3 days later.  So you see the power of a stubborn woman.

If I have failed to mention any one please take comfort that Jane knew and appreciated all the kind gestures.  I also want to thank those of you who celebrated Jane's life with us on June 17, 2000.  Your kind thoughts, notes and cards mean a lot to us all.
