"Oh My Father"

O my Father, thou that dwellest in the high and glorious place

When shall I regain thy presence and again behold thy face?

In thy holy habitation, Did my spirit once reside?

In my first primeval childhood, Was I nurtured near thy side?

For a wise and glorious purpose thou has placed me here on earth

And withheld the recollection of my former friends and birth

Yet oft times a secret something Whispered, "you're a stranger here."

And I felt that I had wandered from a more exalted sphere.

I had learned to call thee Father, through thy Spirit from on high,

But, until the key of knowledge was restored I knew not why,

In the heav'ns are parents single? No, the thought makes reason stare!

Truth is reason truth eternal tells me I've a mother there

When I leave this frail existence, When I lay this mortal by,

Father, Mother, may I meet you in the royal courts on high?

Then, at length, when I've completed All you sent me forth to do,

With your mutual approbation let me come and dwell with you.

I have a wonderful family.  They have brought me so much joy and happiness,  The greatest lessons I have learned in this life have come through being a mother  to seven children of my own and 4 of Dicks, and a wife to my very special husband. I believe that families are the greatest teaching tools of our Father in Heaven and they are definitely ordained of God.  There is nothing greater than to look back on your life and be able to say that you have raised a family together and enjoyed it every step of the way.  Oh, there are always trials and times when you wonder if it is all worth it, but this feeling doesn't last long when one of your children does something that makes your heart burst with pride when they accomplish something new and wonderful.   There is no such thing as a small accomplishement for each of them is like a building block that adds one on top of another until this great edifice is built called "life".  Oh, I wish that we would all remember to praise our children and spouses more and critisize them less.  If we remind them of their greatness often and that they are a child of God they can and they will climb to great heights.  I don't think that there are very many days that have gone by that has not taught me something of great worth either by my husband or my children.  My oldest son, "Ruly" as we called him from the day he was born until his death in 1976 was so special and so much fun.  He loved life and was always finding new ways to make it fun and exciting.  I have put a tribute to him on my site and if you would like to know more about him please read this.  I have 4 more sons and 6 daughters.  Each of them are originals and each has a unique sense of humor.  Their talents are many and varied.  This really makes an interesting combination when we are together as a family.  They all love music and have spent many hours playing their gitars and drums and singing.  They used to keep me in stitches with their sense of humor.  Most of them are born to entertain.  But we mostly entertain each other.  Their lives are filled with having families and raising them to be wonderful children too.  I think that most families have their own special structure and wonderful experiences that hold them together.  Mine was probably due to the wonderful way that we could laugh at life and most times at ourselves.  Most of them are very interested in creating things.  Some love crafts, some like to build things and others like painting, Some are wonderful at decorating their homes with warmth and color. Some are filled with a wonderful talent to care for and give love and warm support to the elderly.   Some create through word such as songs and poems, Some love to ride and rope in the rodeo.  Truly when you have a family as large as mine your can find almost any wonderful variety of talents and ambitions.  I am not sure that each of my children would want to be put in the lime light of this page so suffice it to say that I do have a very warm and loving family that have a deep abiding love for our Father in heaven and our wonderful Savior Jesus Christ.  They are great husbands and wives and fathers and mothers.  Not perfect because none of us are but still loved and honored by their children.  And my grandchildren are so special.  Each of them holds a special spot in my heart that no one else could fill but them.  I hope that each of them knows this.  For this is my goal in this life!!! To love my family and to cherish each of them as individuals and to teach them as they have taught me.  If I have taught them to love one another and to love their friends and neighbors in this world and to have respect for all others no matter what race, religion, culture, status in life, and to reach out in service to others then I have accomplished all that I have set out to do.  I know that real happiness only comes when you are serving your family, your husbands and wives, and your friends and neighbors, But mostly serving your Father in heaven for in doing so you are also serving each other.

Life is made up of joy and sorrow, tragedy and triumph, laughter and tears, serious things and humorous things,  For there truly is an opposition to all things in this world, but if we can learn to  put all things into perspective and remember that each day filled with sorrow will pass and the sun will shine tomorrow.  That each time one door closes another one opens.  That each lesson we learn will prepare us for the next one coming, and learn to laugh at ourselves when we do things that are really not too smart.  We can survive this wonderful, exciting and sometimes tragic life.  These things I have learned from my family in one way or another.  A family is truly a blessing, a step to greater things, and a university of learning.
