~*Eternal Sisters*~
~*Our Father's Garden*~
As we walked arm in arm together beneath the flowering trees
two Children of our Father, friends for eternities.
We knew the time approached when we would leave our home and go
to live a life down on the earth, just where we did not know.
We talked of all the things that we would like to do
though our lives would be different and far apart it's true
then we promised that we would find each other no matter how far
and we would know when we met by the feelings in our hearts.
Oh my sister she said to me, I fear for us when we go to earth
For we may not be born as members of His earthly church
We must make a promise that if one should find it first
That she will find the other and tell her of it's worth
We each promised the other as we held each other tight
That one would find the other and make everything all right.
As the time grew close and we approached the time of birth
we finally came to different homes to dwell upon the earth
~*The recollection: *~
I knelt by the rosebush, the fragrance strong and pure
I was stirred by the sweetness, and a memory so sure
a long forgotten face flashed through my memory
as I closed my eyes tightly and tried so hard to see.
Just for that special moment and then in a flash was gone
but the feeling lingered in my heart like words of a song.
I felt I should remember something in the distant past
a promise I had made, but the memory didn't last.
~*The recognition:*~
My mission was almost over and I was ready to go home
I felt a sense of sadness though the reason was unknown.
I felt that there was something I still had to do
Someone that I must find before my mission here was through
"One last day", I said and my companion understood.
that we must follow these promptings the very best we could
We came to an old house where the porch was falling down
And knocked on the screen door then almost turned around
When the door was slowly opened and a face came into view
a pretty face with a timid smile then suddenly it grew.
"I know who you are", she said, "I've seen you walking by
And every time I saw you pass tears came into my eyes.
I don't know why I felt this way or what is going on
But I felt that I should call to you as you walked along."
As I looked into her soft warm eyes a stirring touched my soul
and I knew that I had known her before coming here below.
As I reached out and touched her a vision crossed my mind
two sisters holding hands in a garden beautifully sublime.
I remembered a promise that we'd made to each other there
and I put my arms around her and she said, "you're here, You're here.
We taught her the gospel and she knew that it was true
The first time she heard it she had this feeling, and she knew
then she understood why she'd felt this way each time that we walked by
and she could understand why she felt the need to cry.
The knowledge of this promise her spirit had recalled it seems
and she had been told of this gospel in many of her dreams
She knew someday I'd find her or someone who would help her find
this gospel that had been promised, and would come to her in time.
Oh how we rejoiced and now recalled our time together there
the walks and talks we had and the promises we shared.
Now we are the best of friends here on earth as we were so long ago
And we share the blessings here each day and love each other so
two sisters who had made a promise before their earthly birth
two sisters who had walked together there
now walk together here on earth.
