The sky was filled with stars so bright
as reverence filled the quiet night
The shepherds stilled their herds of sheep
their soft voice lulled the lambs to sleep
A bright star shown in the Eastern sky
In awe they watched, and questioned why
then angels came to spread the joy
and the news of the birth of a baby boy
They said fear not for we come to tell
you of His birth, Peace, all is well
Mary placed Him in a manger warm
surrounded by love, protected from harm
Way off in the East three kings did see
the star in the East and knew it to be
the sign that they had long waited for
so leaving their homes they followed this star
The road was long and they traveled slow
Where this star would lead they did not know
They came to the King, Herod the Great
And was ushered in then told to wait
He told them to return and report of this birth
and he would send gifts of gold and great worth
But an angel warned them not to return
His plan was to kill the Christ Child they learned
Many days they traveled and nights went by
as they watched the star still seen in the sky
Bearing gifts, Gold, franchencense, and myrrh
This joy in their hearts had brought them far
when they found baby Jesus, God's own Son
They knelt at the side of this Holy One.
They worshipped this child who had come to earth
and blessed man kind through his mortal birth.
So Christmas to me is not Santa or sleigh
Nor the gifts under the tree nor games to play
Nor the tables filled with food stacked high
nor plum pudding nor turkey nor pumpkin pie
Though the symbol of all these things delight
and we laugh at the thoughts of Santa's flight
as they light up the eyes of a child so sweet
and watch them laugh it seems so neat.
When the snow filled sky dawns Christmas Day
I Kneel with my family, hold hands and pray.
We'll remember the child born in Bethlehem
And love fill our hearts as we worship him.
