TO THE ABODE OF INDRANIL DAS 
I welcome you all to my web page. I was born and brought up in Calcutta, the City of Joy, in the summer of 1973. It has been a long journey since then. Currently, I reside in San Ramon, California. I am working in SBC Telecommunications. Previously, I worked in GTECH Corporation, Rhode Island, and GE Power Systems, Schenectady, New York. My parents and my brother live in Siliguri, West Bengal, India. My brother, Rudranil is a First Year, B.Tech. student at Atria Institute of Technology Bangalore, India. My parents are based in Kolkata. Needless to day, they remain my prized possessions. After living in India for 26 years and experiencing several ups and downs, I went abroad to England for higher studies. That remains the highest point of my whole academic career and the period of stay in U.K. (1999-2000) can aptly be described as the golden period of my entire career. Words cannot describe how i felt once i landed in Heathrow Airport in London and was received by the student community of Keele University. I met several people there and visited lots of places in England and Scotland. After that, i came to U.S.A., the land of opportunities to work here. I landed in New York, "the city that never sleeps." It is known as the city of skyscrappers and controls the world's finance. But, my heart was always with Kolkata. It is a great city with lots of life and activities. Well i thing i have realised. It is that, there is no place on Earth like Calcutta. You will invariably miss the "addas", long intellectual discussions, durga pujas, college canteens, new year celebrations, etc.
I completed studying M.Sc., Computing in Earth Sciences at KEELE UNIVERSITY, Staffordshire, in the School of Earth Sciences and Geography, U.K. and achieved distinction. I received the prestigious DFID scholarship (Department for International Development Shared Scholarship Scheme). I am still in touch with my Keele friends like Nick, Ben and Andy. I did my schooling at the Assembly of God Church School, Calcutta and passed out in 1992. Life then was carefree and I still have contacts with my best friends (Mainak, Tirthankar, Saikat and Ritesh). After that, I joined PRESIDENCY COLLEGE, Calcutta, in the Department of Geology and passed B.Sc. with first class in 1995. Presidency life was really good as I had the first taste of freedom, free from the confines of the school discipline. We had an excellent batch. The important aspect was the fieldwork which allowed our batchmates to gell and stay as single unit. I am still in contact with Buju, Sudipta, Dipu, Bang, Sankha. Then I went to INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, KHARAGPUR and studied M.Sc. in Applied Geology. I passed out in 1997 with first class. Subsequently I joined the M.Tech. program in Applied Geology at the same Institute and passed out in 1999 with first class. IIT was also fun and was instrumental in shaping my career. I had several good friends in Holdu, Kingshuk, Sumit, Atin, Anjan, Nabarun, Podu, Bhatt, Paul, Souti. Later Buju also joined IIT KGP we had the best of times.
