NEWS...

April 10 - 2012 ...proud to announce that our new music library web site at Retro Media Collective is up and running. Check it out at Retro Media Collective ... This library specializes in Retro music styles. Bring on Frank Sinatra and Joey Ramone ;-)

Mar 30 - 2012... OK... I did it! I started my own band spankin' new bright and sparklieee BLOG. It's called "the Belly of the Beat" and you can find it here: the Belly of the Beat ...In the blog I will be talking a lot about songwriting, composing, the music biz and life stuff with a bunch of tips and tricks for success no matter where you are on your path. Just found out that a lot of my music is being used on a new SyFy channel show called "Monster Man" as well as OWN's new show Oprah's Lifeclass. WhooHOO!!! Rock on!

Mar. 3 - 2012... Tons of new songs recorded, some great recent collabs with Bob Mete, Warren Sellers, Mycle Wastman, Lydia Ashton and Lou Trez... also bunches of placements on bunches of TV shows (see front page of this web site)... Probably the biggest news is that I am getting close to launching my own new Music Library (I've been quietly working on this for a year now). The working title for the company is Retro Media Collective. Phase one of this company will be the release of Retro vocal songs (full CDs)... Current projects include the styles of Frank Sinatra, Janis Joplin and Stax Records (Otis Redding, Wilson Picket)... Phase 2 will include the release of instrumentals. Scheduled first release should be early 2013. Our web site is scheduled to be up and running in early May of this year. Stay tuned :-)

Nov. 10 - 2011... just got back from the Taxi (A&R) Road Rally (Music convention) in LA. Many thanks to CEO Michael Laskow and all of his staff for putting on yet another great party! Many old friendships were rekindled and many new friendships began... Also coolness was learning from Charles Fox, Ralph Murphy, Rob Charelli, Ron Harris, Jay Frank, Robin Frederick and many, many more. I'm already counting down the days until next years extravaganza. Got some new vocal song collabs going and am currently in the studio writing and cutting 10 new TV tracks before the end of the month. Also working with the band Quickie (Producer/Engineer Jack Endino at the controls) on some slammin' new rock tracks... what's next? ...stay tuned :-)

Sept. - 2011... A few cool placements and cuts... "Somebody like you" was placed on the NBC show "Friends with Benefits," "Better off that way" was used in the CW hit "The Secret Circle," also I got a co-write cut (Love Tragedy) on Mycle Wastman's Smokin new CD... Lot's of tracks on new OWN shows and currently writing for Dr. Oz and a new Discovery Channel show (can't tell you the title yet ;-)... I've spent a great deal of time this summer working on lyric-songs and am hoping to get a few great tunes out of this renewed focus on songs... we'll see... all is well :-)

June - 2011... Just doin' my thang... New placements with ImageWorks, Oprah, Dr. Laura Berman etc... and... recording tons of new TV tracks for many major libraries and shows. Had to hire some lawyers to try to get some of the $$ owed to my from a couple of un-named music companies - heh - "welcome to the music biz." Lots of irons in the fire with many new TV shows - hoping a few pan out... This summer, in addition to recording dozens of new TV tracks and instrumentals for muzak, I will be demoing quite a few new vocal tunes - something I haven't done a lot of for the last year or so... should be fun :-)

April - 2011... Has it really been five months since my last update... oops... sorry. Just got back from composer Camp in Nashville. Great time hangin and learning from Matt Hirt, Chuck Schlacter, John Mazzei, Lydia Ashton, Barry French, Dave Walton, Bob Mete also got to hang with Ted Fox and Ryan Shea Smith. Also generous with there time were Durango's Jack Hayford, Aaron Gant and Randy Wachtler from 615 music and Warner's Phil May. Got to stop by 515 studios to say hi to Jimi and Ben and have a nice chat with Chip Hardy. Recently, I have been having fun cuttin some southern rock tracks for a new Discovery Channel show that will be out this summer called "Road Eats." Also doing more smooth, more mainstream TV tracks, writing a bunch of new songs with various folks and just generally trying to keep up with the work being swung my way. Life is good :-)

Nov. 8 - 2010... Just got back from LA doing the 2010 Taxi A&R Road Rally... whoa... need some recovery time from all of the awesomeness... Great four day party hangin' with all of my Taxi buds and meeting some cool new (to me) people - def some new friendships growing - wish I could hang with these guys every week. On the recording front - a few new shows with placements including a big one on NBC's "Parenthood." Yay! Bunches of Muzak spins and new song collaborations in the mix. Winding up my best-ever year in film and TV music with 2011 looking to be even more over-the-top... Also, with 60 Smooth-J tunes recorded over the last few years for Muzak I am contemplating releasing a CD project or two of that stuff... we shall see... stay tuned :-)

Aug. 7 - 2010... Wazzup!!?!!?! Whoa... I've been busy in the studio this summer. Writing for Studio 51/Harpo, Back-End and Muzak. Recently got my first placement in the #1 daytime talk show hosted by a lady whos name begins with the letter "O" that my contract won't allow me to print the name of - heh ;-) Also, got a song "Messing me up" on the MTV show "The Hills" as well as six new tunes accepted for rotation on Muzak... Stuff is good. However, due to my over-booked film & TV recording schedule I didn't make it to Nashville this summer - which kinda bums me out - so many good friends and writers that I didn't get to hang with this season - such is life sometimes. Other news, Dexter Carlson just released our co-written song "I wish I was Jimmy Buffett" so go check it out on youtube and/or go to his web site dextercarlsonmusic.com and check out all his stuff :-) Been writing some new tunes with Dex, Louis Torres and also Erika Anderson and still trying to finish up demos of songs written with Dean Taylor, Barry French, CK Barlow, Donny Anderson, Chip Hardy, Laura Walmsley, Mycle Wastman and my bro Scott Krippayne. Coming up for me is, well, more of the same... write, record, write record - bring it baby!!!

May 20 - 2010... It's weird where this world of writing and producing TV cues takes you. Before I started working in this field I would have considered myself mainly a pop songwriter who does a little jazz too... In the last year I have placed tracks that are Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Metal, Hard rock, Pop, Country, Lounge, Comedy, Dramedy, Orchestra, Hip-hop, Ambient, Trance... and the list goes on. I feel so lucky to have stumbled into a musical career where I get to explore so many genres... Recently, I'm just keeping busy doing all of the above and for the first time in my music life I am turning down TV music projects every couple of weeks - just not enough time in the day to do them all. What else..., Quickie has released their new CD you can find it on itunes - I have co-written a bunch of the material with them... I'm digging deeper into the engineering side of things... I figure that it's time to start really "learning" about what I've been faking the last few years ;-) Hoping to get down to Nashville for a writing trip sometime this summer - if my schedule permits... Life is good... count it off and play :-)

Mar. 14 - 2010... Wow! It's bee a while since I posted an update. Oops. Been busy writing and recording. About 35 new tracks so far this year for Studio 51, Muzak and BackEnd Music Library..., coming to a show near you. Also, been writing new songs with Wastman and Scotty K. It looks like The Punk/pop band Quickie will soon be releasing their long awaited CD (I've got quite a few cuts on that CD - and I'm excited about the way it sounds). "Don't you worry" is still #1 RnB on GarageBand - that's about 2 years at that spot - sheesh. Working on a new book about writing and recording for film and TV - dunno when I'll have it done..., hopefully this year... The next couple of months hold more of the same - I am so blessed to have a ton of work to do for various TV shows and for Muzak. I've been doing mostly smooth jazz for Muzak but the opportunity is now there for me to do other styles... we'll see. Until next time :-)

Dec. 4 - 09. So much going on - yay! More releases from Prolific Arts Library and I'm currently in the studio cutting another pop CD for them. Finished a bunch of tracks for Studio51 and just found out that 4 more of my smooth tunes got picked up for rotation on Muzak. November took me to the Taxi (A&R) Road Rally in LA where I got a chance to hang out with dozens (hundreds) of friends in the music biz. It was a great time but it took me about a week to recover from the five day party :-) This coming year will bring numerous film and TV placements, some smooth and a bunch of co-writes with somegroovin' cats - life is good!

Sept 7 - 09. Just got some music on the new CW show "Vampire Diaries." The song was recorded by the amazing power-pop-punk band Quickie. Also, just placed another handful of smooth on Muzak and "Don't you worry" is still #1 on Garageband's RnB charts... Recently signed to do five years worth of music for Harpo Productions - yay! And still trying to recover from my crazy-cool time hangin' in Nashville last week. This fall I'll mostly be in the studio (over 50 tracks due before the first of the year) but will take a brief road trip to hang at the Taxi Rally in Nov. All is well :-)

July 17 - 09. Wow is it hot in Seattle. 88 degrees as I type this. Better stay in the AC studio and keep recording :-) It's been almost two months since I updated here (?) Well, a handful of Muzak placements happened last month, some negotiations with new music libraries, "Don't you worry" is still #1 on garageband's RnB charts (four months in a row now)..., writing and recording with some cool new artists and trying to enjoy some summer before it fades into the autumn drizzles. If you're bouncing around facebook or twitter hit me up (facebook.com/deankrippaehne)... I'll be hanging out in Seattle until my next Nashville trip at the end of the Summer and LA in Nov. --- that's about it. Love!

May 21 - 09. Just got back from Nashville. Great week of writing, friends and biz. Thanks to Ted, Barry, Chuck, Patrick, Jimi, Laura, Chip, Mike, Pete, Donny, Michael and the staff at Longhorn for making it a wonderful adventure. No thanks to the guy on the plane ride home who decided to give his cough to the other passengers - heh - **cough** What's up now? Lot's of song demo-ing coming up this month as well as multiple library track productions. Also, "Don't you worry" has been # 1 RnB at Garageband for eight weeks now, and was just released as a single by Sarah Burgess in Japan. Yay!

April 17 - 09. My Taxes are done - whew! What have I been up to... Recording Smooth Jazz and pop tracks for Muzak, Recording Alt. Rock tracks for ESPN and FOX Sports, Writing pop and country songs..., and trying to get the digital pops and clicks out of my studio - heh. "Don't you worry" sung by the amazing Missi Hale has been #1 (RnB) at Garageband for the last 4 weeks strait... That's about it.

March 7 - 09 Business music provider TruSonic Inc. has just signed 65..., yes, 65 of my songs. Whoohoo. A bunch of dean music coming to a store near you. Also, Stefanie Heinzmann's CD just went Platinum in Europe! That's all for now :-)

Feb. 13 - 09... It's all good :-) Spending a lot of time in the studio writing and recording many tracks for various projects. Muzak just accepted a few more of my smooth jazz tracks - Yay. Also, I just got word that I have a song in the new Chris Rock Film/doc called "Good Hair." It won a couple of awards at Sundance and I hear it is pretty funny in true Chris Rock fashion. In addition I just found out that Stefanie Heinzmann's CD will be released in the US in March. Coolness - the CD includes my song "Do your thing." OK, back to work :-)

Dec. 17 - 08.... Merry Christmas season :-) What's up.... I finally joined the rest of the world and got an account on Facebook.com - hit me up. Working on finishing up a jazz piano trio CD for a music library and also cutting some song demos. "Don't you worry" hit # 1 on GarageBand.com again (RnB). I made it sledding down my hill last week..., about 20 runs without hurting myself. It has been a great year this last year - hoping 09 is as good and hoping your 09 is filled with peace and joy as well.

Sept. 1 - 08 - Just signed a bunch of 70's sounding instrumental tracks with Prolific Arts Music Library and also just got some smooth jazz placed on Muzak. (Yay - $$$) A brand new artist recorded "Don't you worry" at Capitol a couple weeks ago with some heavy cats from Prince's band playin' as well as musicians from the Christina Aguilera and Lauren Hill bands... Grammy winning producer at the helm (I'll name him when I get the OK) I'm pretty excited to hear the final mix and hoping it gets released. I'll post here as soon as I find out.

JULY 26 - 08 - Sorry I haven't posted for a bit. Took a vacation to the midwest to hang with friends - great time! Currently, I'm trying to enjoy the Seattle outdoors before the fall greyness settles back in :-) Just delivered a thrid CD to major music library - this one was of comedy/novelty instrumentals - Starting to write and record #4 CD for same company. Spoke at a couple of Seminars for Taxi - one at Studio 515 (great studio - great people) and the other at Loews Vanderbilt. Thanks to Michael Laskow for including me and for his coolness. Got a song ("do your thing") on Stefanie Heinzman's debut CD ("Masterplan") and the Universal Music disc has already hit # 8 on Billboard's Euro Charts - whoohoo! Also landed a cut ("don't you worry") on the Sarah Burgess (American Idol) debut CD (PME Records). Continued spins are a-rollin' on "One life to live" and are help paying the bills. Did I mention that I am currently feeling quite fortunate. I will be joining Taxi's Michael Laskow on my upcoming Nashville trip to speak at a small gathering at Studio 515 and also at a Taxi music seminar at Loews Vanderbilt in a few weeks. Stoked about that! Been working too, on smooth jazz tunes for Muzak - six are in the can - so to speak. That's all for now. I'll post more after visiting TwangTown.

Mar 12 - 2008 Recording, writing, recording! I've recorded about 20 new library tracks in the last couple of months and have just started on a new smooth-jazz project (The first since the pH7 project back in the 90's). Universal Music artist Stefanie Heinzmann recorded "Do Your Thing" on her Masterplan CD (Europe). Her first single hit # 3 in Germany and # 13 overall in Europe so I'm pretty stoked about it all. Yay! Also, still digging into the Country stuff (Back to Nashville in May) and working with some amazing folks in that genre. Teen Country Artist Jordan Wright cut both "Retail Therapy" and "Who I am" on her debut release. Check it out on itunes.
