Her Drawing States "Avilla Rules" Like I told the Council Members when I was tired and at a Very Low Point during this endeavor, Christina's entry came to my home at just the right time. I stood at my mail box and laugh, then cried, then thought Now this Drawing truly, truly says it all. "Avilla Rules" I truly believe it was the blessing, from God above that I needed at just the right time. "Thank you Sweet Heart"

We now have a Town Flag. With the Vote of 3 Far and 0 Against. Paul Shepherd the Presendent of the Council Stated. Silas Choked up with tears, as he stated Thank you Council Members for excepting my Small Precious Gift, and makeing my Dream a Reality, Please keep Her Safe with your Voice and your VOTE.






I like to say a few words a bought this flag, and how we arrived at getting one. Since I am retired from the Army of 23 years. Every unit from the higest level to the company level allways had a flag to represent them to state who they were, the U.S. has the Stars and Strips and each State has their own State Flag. I personaly felt that my home Town of Avilla should have a Flag to Repersent Her. In July I was putting a few pages together for this Web Site and I walked in to Coumminity State Bank to ask for permission to take a few pictures and some information on this Bank and that’s how it all started. My hopes and dreams are that this flag will represents Our Town Proudly and Honorably for many years to come. I also have given the Town all the Ownership and Rights to this Flag, thanks to Todd Taylor, and Paul Shepard they helped me accomplish this endevar. I want it to be my Small Gift to the Town and No One Else, I personaly feel I owe so much to this town. I want to say to all the people whom entered this flag contest thank you, your entries were great, I love the children’s designs alot they really touch my heart. Our Flag is made from the highest of quality of material and is 2 sided. We received a very good price to sell them for. Just $22.00 and sales tax. Great Price. Lets show Our Home Town Pride.


This Is my Gift to Avilla. This Flag to me Personally means this "The Blue and White has always been Avilla's School Colors. The Scroll in the top left corner states Equal, Faith, Family, Friends, Giving and I must say it Fits Our Towns people Very Well. The Top Right Corner is Our Beloved State and were we are Located. The Bottom Left Corner is a symbol of a Barn with hey, that is Our Rich Farming History from yester year to this Very Day. the Bottom right corner well Family say it all." Thanks Adam for all your hard work on getting this Flag to say volumes abought Our Beloved Town.

Dec. 19-2007 it was Flag Day for Avilla. This was made possible through the efforts of a Town Citizen who asked that his contributions be kept anonymous since his beginning of this in early July 07. The winner of the contest was Avilla resident

Adam Rothenberger, 32.

Rothenberg generated the slogan "Our Home Is Yours."
" The Hardest part was representing everybody in one setting," he said. The flag depicts Avilla's farming heritage, it's welcoming nature and the importance of faith and family values play in the town's everyday activates.

"It's Fantastic," Pucket said. The town was given all legal rights to the flag, meaning no one but the town can profit off its reproductions of its image.


Rumors have been going round "why on Earth would this man do this, is he Rich, is he nuts , has he lost his mind, does he relise he could have made big money off this". Well some here in Avilla have stated "you would have to know this man to understand". He has stated from the beginning, he wanted no credit or fame and fortune, the town is going to have a paten on this flag so NO ONE Could Every Take Her Away From this Town or Cash in off Her, with out the Town making something off her. Some of us thought yea right he is crazy, He has Lost his mind, But he Proved it to us, and he Delivered on every Single Promise he made and then some, He uses a quote from his father who drove it in to him from a young boy till he passed away "a man only has his word and with out your word you have nothing" he laughs some times using this quote, my how some thing stick with you. He has tried to keep a very low key cause he lives a very quiet simple life, and enjoys just that. Rumors have it after he made the presentation he went in to hibernation for a couple weeks to let this all settle. Now he is out giving away free Flags to People and some Businesses who rightly Deserve a Flag for their Honorable Service to this Town.
He was born and raised in Southern Indiana, “Jasper" 1956 - 1999. He served Our County from Aug. 74 - Sept 1996 in the U.S Army, and moved to Northern Indiana "Kendallville" in July 99, and then in 03 moved to Avilla. In teasing with him I often ask were do you call your Home Grown Roots at. He states “Avilla Silly you know that." He has also stated "I am going to do this All my Way from the Beginning to the End", We are truly Glad he Trusted Paul Shepard Our President of the Council, for some guidance and some help. He has stated that Paul Shepard is a Kind Hearted, Loving, Gentle, Warm Attitude Man and he has inspired him to do what is Fair and Right for the Town. Please be advised he has stated Paul never once demanded that he do any thing, he has said that he all ways felt that Paul new that his heart was in the right place and just needed some help over a couple things. I want to honor Our Town to the Fullest, he has stated that Paul had the Town's and his best interest at the fore front all the time. and I "Thank you so very much Paul"
