The Unofficial Jedi's Guide to the YJCCG Galaxy is THE card strategy reference for Decipher's Young Jedi CCG. Starting with the first expansion, 'The Menace of Darth Maul', each individual card will be discussed until it can be discussed no further. Nevertheless, if I have missed something, email me at jinnandtonic@yahoo.com.au, and I will update it accordingly.

jinnandtonic's Grades:

Economy: B-
Shmi's Pride is a reasonably economical card, giving a Power +3 bonus to Anakin Skywalker in battle. It is let down however by the fairly average Destiny of 3. As you should know by now, decks containing Anakin should be looking to include high Destiny supporting cards, not middle-of-the-range supporting cards. Still fairly economical in itself though.

Decipher: A
I can understand the idea of Anakin being conscious of his mother's pride in him, and therefore feeling stronger or braver, so this card works. The image is okay, and the game text is very nice. Good work all round from Decipher. This is the standard to strive for.

Overall Usefulness: B-
Shmi's Pride, like Fear Attracts the Fearful, is probably not as useful a card as it appears on the surface. As we all know, Anakin Skywalker / Podracer Pilot relies on Destiny for his Power, and any deck that has enough copies of Anakin to warrant inclusion of Shmi's Pride will probably have Destiny first and foremost in mind. This is a card that may become more useful if a non-Destiny reliant version of Anakin is released, but until then, it is a card that you will not want to pack your Anakin decks with.

CARD FACTS:
--------------------

UNCOMMON, YELLOW-DOT, BATTLE CARD

Destiny: 3

Game Text:
ooo Use with Anakin.

Flavor Text: "You have brought hope to those who have none. I'm very proud of you." --- Shmi Skywalker

------------------------------------------------
SPECIFIC INTERACTING CARDS:
------------------------------------------------

For this combo you will need:

Anakin Skywalker, Podracer Pilot
(#4, Menace of Darth Maul, Rare, Blue-Dot)

This is your only option in terms of Anakin versions at the moment, and it will have to do. You will have to decide whether the Power +3 bonus granted to Anakin by Shmi's Pride is worth the fairly average Destiny that card has. Certainly, if you had more copies of Anakin to draw on (besides the current maximum of 10) this card could be included in multiples of more than 3, or 4 if you want to push it. But in most Anakin decks, I would suggest you keep it to around 2 or so: remember, even if you are using 10 copies of Anakin Skywalker / Podracer Pilot, copies of Anakin only represent 1/3 of your characters and 1/6 of your deck. The Negotiations Were Short beckons...

-------------------
IN BRIEF:
-------------------

Shmi's Pride is a standard Power bonus providing Battle card, in the same vein as Enough of This Pretense and I've Been Trained in Defense. It does appear that this is a card to include with caution, when you consider the need for a high Average Destiny in an Anakin deck and that you have a maximum of 10 Anakin Skywalker / Podracer Pilots to use with it. Nothing special, but it is arguable that this is the ideal card to help out Anakin when you draw that Qui-Gon Jinn as Destiny for Anakin's Power. You must remember when deck-building that cards like The Negotiations Were Short (Destiny = 4) and Da Beings Hereabouts Cawazy (Destiny = 5) have higher Destiny than Shmi's Pride, and are also more flexible. Still, a couple won't do any harm, and it is a nice theme card.

-------------------------------
GENERAL PLAY TIPS:
-------------------------------

* An Anakin fun theme? Cards like Shmi's Pride, Anakin Skywalker's Podracer and maybe Fear Attracts the Fearful together with Jar Jar Binks / Gungan Chuba Thief. Cards like Eopie are also certainly welcome, as are other A+B Battle cards such as Are You An Angel? or Anakin Skywalker, Meet Obi-Wan Kenobi. Try it out, and go for fun rather than effectiveness, though as is often the case with YJCCG, you will probably get both in the deal.

* Question: When will we see Shmi Skywalker? Hopefully next expansion, together with some nice Battle card support.

Up to you. Think of anything else cool about his card, or combos that you have used to great effect? What about a particular game in which this card made you win? Send anything like that to jinnandtonic@yahoo.com.au and I'll add it here. I was just wondering if Shmi has a group of lions that Anakin plays with, or something.....something?
