The Unofficial Jedi's Guide to the YJCCG Galaxy is THE card strategy reference for Decipher's Young Jedi CCG. Starting with the first expansion, 'The Menace of Darth Maul', each individual card will be discussed until it can be discussed no further. Nevertheless, if I have missed something, email me at jinnandtonic@angelfire.com, and I will update it accordingly.

Well, all of the Light characters from the Menace of Darth Maul have now been completed! Who would have thought! Now it's on to the weapons.

jinnandtonic's Grades:

Economy: C-
This card should really be much better. Deploying for free, it gives Power +2 and a Destiny ? draw to Obi-Wan in battle, or a Destiny ? draw to any other Jedi in battle. So only Jedi can use it, and worse yet, it has a truly miserable Destiny of 2. Although it deploys for free, this is nothing great. I'll take a Blaster Rifle any day.

Decipher: F
Well, they mucked this one up. Lightsabers just *can't* be used in *really* competitive decks, because they are underpowered and overpriced. It sure would be fun to have a host of Jedi chopping up Battle Droids with Lightsabers, but Decipher have over-compensated a touch and made that pretty hard to do. I can only hope that they fix their mistake and make Qui-Gon's Lighsaber and Darth Maul's Lightsaber much more economical and fair in future expansions.

Overall Usefulness: D
Maybe you can work out a way to use it effectively. All is not lost. But dreams of using 10 lightsabers in your Weapons category are probably not going to happen. Maybe if you include a couple in your deck, it will be okay. But you are going to have to include a fair slew of Jedi (as many as you can) to make this work effectively.

FLAVOR TEXT: The age-old energy blade is virtually synonymous with the order of Jedi Knights.

CARD FACTS:
--------------------

RARE, ORANGE-DOT, STACKABLE WEAPON

Deploy: Free

Destiny: 2

Game Text:
Adds oo? to Obi-Wan Kenobi in battle (Power +2 AND Destiny ? draw) OR
Adds ? to any other Jedi in battle (Destiny ? draw).

------------------------------------------------
SPECIFIC INTERACTING CARDS:
------------------------------------------------

Obi-Wan Kenobi, Young Jedi
(#1, Menace of Darth Maul, Rare, Red-Dot)
- In the case of the Young Jedi, this weapon makes him effectively have a base Power of 7 plus a Destiny ? draw. Not bad at all...but watch that Destiny, eh?

Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Padawan
(#33, Menace of Darth Maul, Starter Deck Insert, Red-Dot)
If you are going to use this card (no....don't....) then you'd better give him *some* protection (or lose 6 Damage when he inevitably dies). Obi-Wan Kenobi's Lightsaber will give him an effective base Power of 5 + Destiny, which beats a pathetic 3 any day of the week.

-------------------
IN BRIEF:
-------------------

It is a bit disappointing that Obi-Wan Kenobi's Lightsaber is not a bit more powerful. It seems to me that Decipher were trying a little too carefully to ensure that the Rare cards in this first expansion weren't too powerful. Nice idea, especially to make sure that those more privileged little kiddies didn't wind up with an impossibly good deck full of Jedi and Lightsabers. Unfortunately, they have probably made the lightsaber a bit too weak. Quite simply, (even though it doesn't seem right) the Light side of the Force is much better served overall when Obi-Wan is wielding a Blaster Rifle, rather than his personalised lightsaber. Maybe we can sneak *a couple* in though!

-------------------------------
GENERAL PLAY TIPS:
-------------------------------

* Unless you are really focusing on Obi-Wan Kenobi with your deck building, Jedi decks are best served by using Jedi Lightsaber / Constructed by Ki-Adi-Mundi instead of Obi-Wan Kenobi's Lightsaber. This is because that the latter lightsaber gives your Jedi Power +1 and a Destiny ? draw in battle, whereas Obi's Lightsaber only gives a Destiny ? draw. Unless you are overloaded with Obi-Wans (lucky you!), you will generally have more of the other Jedi combined than copies of Obi-Wan. Just remember when you build your deck that Blaster Rifles have a much higher Destiny than Lightsabers (6 compared to 2) and you are hardly getting any more Power for your Jedi with your lightsabers (Power +1 or +2 more). Wisely, your decks must be built.

* The Destiny problem? I am not sure. Once you add all those Jedi in with their lightsabers, and some transports to rescue them, your deck's average Destiny is going to be pretty abysmal. Yoda / Jedi Master is one way to save the day, with his Destiny of 5. In the green-dot category, where there are presently no Jedi, it is probably best if you put 10 copies of Queen Amidala in your deck (just to lift that Destiny)! Any characters which are not Jedi in your deck really must have a Destiny of 5 or 6.

* One nice thing about Obi-Wan Kenobi's Lightsaber is that it deploys for free. The perfect card to protect your expensive Jedi against those pesky Battle Droid/Blaster Rifle combinations early in the game.

* Style Tip: If you deploy Obi-Wan Kenobi, Young Jedi with his personalised lightsaber on the first turn (with you going first) at any site, you should have that site in the bag. Something worth thinking about.

ADDITIONS:
------------------

Up to you. Think of anything else cool about his card, or combos that you have used to great effect? What about a particular game in which this card made you win? Send anything like that to jinnandtonic@angelfire.com and I'll add it here. Foil Darth Maul's Lightsaber anyone?

* Boothby adds: The Sith Lightsaber is non-unique, whereas Obi-Wan Kenobi's Lightsaber (and all Light sabers) are currently unique. I find this uniqueness a hindrance when either one becomes stranded on a planet and I need to deploy a new copy elsewhere.
