The Unofficial Jedi's Guide to the YJCCG Galaxy is THE card strategy reference for Decipher's Young Jedi CCG. Starting with the first expansion, 'The Menace of Darth Maul', each individual card will be discussed until it can be discussed no further. Nevertheless, if I have missed something, email me at jinnandtonic@angelfire.com, and I will update it accordingly.

jinnandtonic's Grades:

Economy: B+
- Captain Tarpals/Gungan Guard appears at first to be just another standard character with Power 3 and Deploy 3. He has a location bonus of Power +2 at Naboo/Gungan Swamp and has a fairly nice Damage of 2. What makes him such a handy character however is that he has a Destiny of 5. Once the Light version of Naboo/Gungan Swamp is released, he will be an even more economical character.

Decipher: A-
There is nothing *really* wrong with this card, from Decipher's point of view. The only possible flaw I can point out is that Tarpals receives no Power bonuses at Naboo / Battle Fields (although this may be rectified in a future version of Tarpals). The image is nice, the Power and Damage justified, and I can live with the Destiny. All in all, a good YJCCG card.

Overall Usefulness: B+
Captain Tarpals is a handy card to have in Light decks which focus on Naboo (probably most of them). He is worth including in a Light deck for his Destiny alone, and the Power of 3 comes in handy as well. Ideal in a Gungan-themed deck, he is perfect fuel for those Kaadu and Electropoles. This card will only become more useful when the future expansions are released, and the Light version of Naboo/Gungan Swamp becomes available.

IN BRIEF:
-------------------

Captain Tarpals is a very useful card. In terms of the Gungan characters currently available, has the highest individual Destiny, with a Destiny of 5. He is therefore the perfect character to assist your Gungan deck's poor average Destiny (most Gungans have a Destiny of 3 or less). In other Light decks, Tarpals is still a valuable card. For the blue-dot category of Light characters, you might want to try 3-5 of Anakin Skywalker / Podracer Pilot and 5-7 of Captain Tarpals/Gungan Guard. When the Light version of Naboo/Gungan Swamp is released, expect some Light decks targeting that site with 10x Tarpals to break onto the tournament scene!

-------------------------------
GENERAL PLAY TIPS:
-------------------------------

* For the blue-dot category, the only other options you have for a Light high-Destiny deck are Padme Naberrie/Handmaiden and Yoda / Jedi Master. If you intend to focus on Naboo more than Tatooine or Coruscant, or you want overall usable Power without a high Damage rating, Tarpals is the best option. Padme's location bonus of Power +2 at Tatooine/Mos Espa is currently useless and Yoda/Jedi Master has a Damage of 4. If you are not using Anakin Skywalker/Podracer Pilot, you may want to try splitting the blue-dot category between Yoda and Tarpals, for a nice balance.

* The Force Quotient (FQ, like IQ) of Captain Tarpals/Gungan Guard is 8. This is the same as Queen Amidala/Royal Leader, Obi-Wan Kenobi/Young Jedi and Mace Windu/Jedi Master. Pretty illustrious company to be sure.

* Silly theme of today: The Disabled Deck. Confused? Take all the Light characters you can find with the majority of their location Bonuses at a site currently unavailable. (e.g. Tarpals, Boss Nass/Leader of the Gungans, Padme Naberrie/Handmaiden, Jar Jar Binks/Gungan Chuba Thief, etc.) Just don't expect to win. Point out at every opportunity that you don't get any location bonuses this battle. Again.

* Style tips:

- Gang up with Tarpals and Jar Jar against a bunch of Trade Federation Tanks, and win.

- Theme deck: The Gungan Guard. Featuring 10x Captain Tarpals and 10x <>Gungan Guard. This theme might actually work nicely when the Light version of Naboo/Gungan Swamp is released. If you don't like that, try the Guard deck, including Royal Guards and Naboo Security/Guard as well.

ADDITIONS:

Up to you. Think of anything else cool about his card, or combos that you have used to great effect? What about a particular game in which this card made you win? Send anything like that to jinnandtonic@angelfire.com and I'll add it here. Who needs Captain Kirk and Captain Picard when you have Captain Panaka and Captain Tarpals?
