Dear Mr. President,

I opened my local paper this morning to find you were delaying any progression on getting the wolves delisted and turned over to our state for management.

The gray wolf is listed as endangered in the lower 48 states. I suggest having a pair brought to Washington D.C. so you can enjoy them as well. They breed like dogs so you will have your own pack in no time.

My grandchildren attended school at Timberline, which is a school for both Pierce and Weippe, Idaho. This is a K through 12 school. The playground borders timber. Our son lives next to the school and they cannot walk their property without carrying a weapon. My granddaughter watched a wolf kill a deer while she was out jogging. Would you like your girls attending school in this area? Possibly you could send some secret service agents to patrol the borders of our schools.

The people who are against delisting these animals do not live in this area. They have no idea what kind of a hardship it puts on people who have to live with these animals. City people would like to lock up our area so no one can enjoy it. If it’s not a tree hugger it is a wolf.

Speaking of the timber industry in this region, our state and those that border it have suffered the loss of jobs through the closing of numerous mills. They can’t hunt to feed their families because the wolves have taken care of the deer and elk.

In the minds of politicians our state doesn’t exist. I don’t believe you even flew over our state during your campaign for president. You were elected before our ballots were even counted. If we aren’t going to be acknowledged the least you can do is leave the running of our state to those who live here.

I would really appreciate a response to this letter. I am tired of being pushed around by decisions made in Washington when you have no idea what is happening here. Come for a visit. The population in the intermountain west may be small, but we need to have a say in what happens where we live. Our votes don’t count, so nothing is going to get done with legislation. The judges who rule over these matters don’t have a clue either. All of you need to take a walk in the woods.

Sincerely,

Janice Medley
